As New Approach goes down to the start the BHA should have a team of stewards banging dustbin lids
It’s not the horse’s fault he’s been messed about with, perhaps they could use the dustbin lids for Bolger instead

June 6, 2008 at 07:30 #166685Lydia Hislop’s remarks were not jingoistic. If a British trainer — before the Arc, say, or the Melbourne Cup — had behaved as Jim Bolger has done, he or she would have offered a poor reflection of British racing.
In my opinion Nickc they were, Jim Bolger acted on his own, his actions do not reflect anything on Irish racing, they do reflect on Jim Bolger Ltd, i.e. himself. Irish trainers have been magnificent supporters of the Derby through the years, something that Lydia Hislop never mentions in her one sided article. Not once does she speak about the entry system which as I have said was the cause of this fiasco. Her article is lazy and ignorant, and is offensive to me as an Irish person.

June 6, 2008 at 07:51 #166688JohnJ, as firefox has pointed out, you are misquoting Lydia.
If, as an Irish person, you are truly offended by her article I suggest that that you become less precious and develop a thicker skin.

Seabird,
If I want to express my view on something I will, truly offended, no, a little, yes. This is a forum, so keep your suggestions about my precious skin to yourself.

June 6, 2008 at 08:32 #166694John, in my experience, if you are easily offended internet forums are not the place for you.
Surely, I am entitled to suggest that you are overreacting to a mis-quote by you of Ms. Hislop’s article.!!!!
Do you accept that you have mis-quoted her, John?

What happens if I do accept? In all fairness, yeah probably should not be too offended, however its a very badly written article, that makes Lydia out to be very one sided in her argument. I do think she is a good journalist, however on this occasion, I rahter think not.

June 6, 2008 at 09:28 #166706How did this thread get so far away from its original subject?
Is anyone else interested in who made money out of the knowledge that New Approach would run after all?June 6, 2008 at 09:37 #166707How did this thread get so far away from its original subject?
Is anyone else interested in who made money out of the knowledge that New Approach would run after all?Yeah I am
June 6, 2008 at 09:41 #166709My reply to Glenn got lost in the thread, but if anyone can be bothered to go and find it, I think you will find that I at least disproved his assertion that the BHA facilitated profit-making by ‘insiders’.

June 6, 2008 at 09:54 #166718Sorry Marcus. I didn’t mean to resurrect that accusation.
June 6, 2008 at 11:52 #166754As regards the start, New Approach should have to parade like every other horse. He also should be in the stalls ready at the off time. If he can’t manage the both, the race should go off without him.
I’m not joking.
June 6, 2008 at 11:59 #166756I agree. That would remove the self righteous smirk hiding beneath the surface.

I agree completely
June 6, 2008 at 12:10 #166761No, we want a fair test where all participants are treated the same – Otherwise it makes it a nonsense. This is not pocket talk (My only bet was an antepost on thewayyouare) its called being fair. New Approaches mental state is not that bad or he is not that special that he deserves anything other than equality.
June 6, 2008 at 12:11 #166762Having read yesterday’s paper copy of the RP, and all of this "threatening" of Jim Bolger nonsense about not holding up the start, I think this is now becoming totally unsavoury, and should be put to bed immediately.
Journos need a story to sell papers, and they are having a field day on this, make no mistake.
So are you saying it shouldn’t be reported?
Even though other trainers have expressed genuine concerns that a repeat of the horses 2000 Guineas antics could adversely affect their runners.
Looking at the amount of time you have dedicated to this topic I can only assume you don’t like the competition.
June 6, 2008 at 12:13 #166764God you are just a little bit of a dope (takes a lot to say that).
I actually backed New Approach at 15/2 earlier in the week; I think he is a 3-4/1 shot myself, so that’s not my issue.
Bolger is a disgrace, an arrogant man. The Derby is not just any race; if you can’t understand that, you don’t understand horse racing. Part of the Derby is withstanding the fanfare of the occasion, of which the parade is an integral part. Now, presuming NA takes part in the parade (if not, he should be disqualified for reasons stated above), are the other 16 horses meant to wait at behind the stalls, sweating up, just to allow New Approach to have his own way?
I think you may have lost your mind..
