It is difficult on an openly viewed forum to post something secretly, but I have a sort of clever plan, and I am suggesting the lounge be closed in readiness, but this plan may be foiled if the racing bodies read this. I have made the title of this thread look like a horse. My guess is they have hopefully already transported their laziness home ready for sherries and the odd gin and minced tart and the other festive niceties – in short they’ve done an early bunk.
All of us ( well you ) racing guys – horseheads if you like, and hopefully you don’t mind my referring to you as such, well I have seen your positive feedback on difficult situations in the sport and your recommendations for change and expressed over 20 years. I seem to remember one suggestion was less racing. I think this might be combined with less donkeys taking part. Some of you, but few welcome a tote. Higher prize money – but resources are apparently short and there is this new disease that is affecting all sport.
Well the BHA and the jockeys associations possibly never look in here
They may have there own secret agenda.
This minded me to tell you of the little bird. The little bird will carry the message to them that racing is in a parlous state and in need of change – but why ? You and they will ask ? Well the little bird will tell them that on the horseracing section of The Racing Forum all the participating members now only discuss – Knitting Patterns.I cleverly suggest we let this thread drift out of sight and on New Years day – some bright spark can start a thread entitled Crotchet. Another could be
– A woolen tea cosy with plain and pearl.I don’t know where to start.
1. No, I don’t want the Lounge closed, even if it is being trolled at the moment.
2. No, I don’t mind being referred to as a “Horsehead” as part of some sort of “Horsehead” Collective. Water off a duck’s back. Whatever.
3. The supposedly covert tactic of giving a thread a horse’s name in the hope no one from the BHA will read it is, even by gamblesque standards, unbelievable. Words literally fail.
4. Should this thread even be here and not in The Lounge? I always feel Loungesque material winding up here is like a particularly grotesque fancy dress party spilling out into the street and upsetting the neighbours.
5. As usual, I have little or no idea what, if anything, you are hoping to accomplish from this.
6. Does any of this bother me? Far from it. You remain – and forever will be – the one and only gamble, and you’re as off the wall now as when I first encountered you on the Flutter forum in 2001. Merry Christmas and many more of them to you, sir!

The art of making woolly things using a little hook is called crochet, but the little hook itself is called a crotchet: probably because it closely resembles the musical note. You learn something every day. I bet auto correct gets very confused about that…
