Well, whatever happens, I shall continue to believe that Neptune put in a far better performance than that hyped, short-priced, thing that Rupert was on in the Gold Cup.

Here is the worry, however: can we trust this jockey to do the business?

Bexster is a stroppy filly thats for sure. She’ll make someone a dragon of a wife. :D

Only joking Bex, don’t start on me as well lol.

    Lol Flash. :D

Methinks you two would make a perfect couple  (Lets hope you’re no Cigar, Flash)

Err, back to horse racing – Yep, NC has a great chance – if he is 13/8 I do not think that is a bad price.

Ha ha. I’m sure Bexter is a lovely girl but I wouldn’t go booking a church for the wedding if I were you. I’m a woman free zone these days after years of hassle and heartache.

Besides its clear to anyone that wants to see that Bexster only has eyes for Fist.

Punchestown is always a tricky meeting as you never know which horses are just going there as an after thought and who will run their race on the day. On decent ground I wouldn’t want to be taking a short price about Neptune Collonge given the fact his trainer always thought he needed fairly soft going. New Alco wouldn’t be the worst kind of bet for as race like this, given Ferdy’s ability to win races at this meeting with horses seemingly well out of their depth, but its a race I’ll watch rather than punt on.

On all known form Neptune should be the proverbial penalty kick and 13/8 is a great price, but looking at his last two runs you have to come to one of the following two conclusions:

    A) He’s improving quite quickly
    B) He’s better the further he goes.

Given he’s only seven you’d probably have to say that A is more likely (and 13/8 then really is stand-out), although if the ground comes up a little quick and there’s any shred of truth in B then the speedier Mossbank could be dangerous. Forget the rest, Kicking King had the ability but I’d make it double his current 7/1 that he even retains said ability.

your right when nipper first came over Paul thought he wanted soft ground and although he goes well on soft ground he’s of the opinion that he’s good on good ground to… he won last year on good ground and Ruby said he travelled well on it…. I think Paul’s not to bothered what the ground is as long as it has’nt got firm in it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh Star de mohasion is owned by Robert Ogden so we don’t know anything about him sorry!!!!!

Nipper is a very good horse and nobody has ever said he is better than denman or kauto he is clearly not but when he runs the race of his life and in the opinion of both the champion trainer and jockey that he is still improving all the time i think we should listen don’t you !!!! after all they do know far more about top class 3mile chasers than any of US…….Lisa Hales

On the contrary, I’ll be hoping NC franks his – so far – underhyped Gold Cup form and in doing so shows us that Kauto Star, far from running well below form, did very well to finish where he did being a short-runner over a truly run 3m+ on a demanding track.

    IMVVHO of course

Well Becky you had a go now I shall attempt to explain to you why I said what I said and stand by it.

I suggest you read your own post as you seem to agree with me but critisize me for saying it.

I read in the sporting life web site Neptune Collonges was given 3 lbs less than Kauto Star in the Sandown Gold Cup.

You have said he isn’t as good as Denman or Kauto, yet when I say he’s over rated I am wrong?

The truth is he ran 3rd in the Gold Cup as did Turpin Green. Year after year we see his type run well in Gold Cups. This years because of adverse conditions it simply turned out to be his type of race.

Unfortunately for him he finished next to Kauto Star and you pay dearly for doing that. The handicapper doesn’t see it the way I do so he hammers the horse.

So when I say he is grossly over rated I mean by the handicapper not by the trainer or the jockey. Why do you assume I would argue with Ruby Walsh or PN who are people who I have the greatest repect for? Jumpimh the gun there girl.

However, I don’t particulary like the NC type who are beaten more often than they win. They simply can’t live with horses who have a good turn of foot or they depend on weak opposition or adverse conditions to win or like HG at Ayr get run over by having to give away too much weight.

Right now if i had a choice between owning him and owning Exotic Dancer I would go for the latter because of the handicapper.

If the two met in the Hennessy 2008 NC would have to give him weight yet on all known form ED is the better horse. That to me makes his current mark nonsense but that’s racing.

PN is going to have a very hard job placing him in the future unless he improves bundles and he simply doen’t look the type to me. For me he is as good as he is going to get IMO

Are you not forgetting that ED was stuffed by NC in the gold cup? (I can;t be bothered to read all the previous posts!!) Both had interrupted seasons in the lead up and to me what the latest GC proved is that Kauto was never really tested by ED… He was in effect laughing at him..

What annoys me the most is that we’re going to have to wait such a long time before these horses all meet again!!!!!

ED blew up at Cheltenham they just couldn’t get him 100% in time but he was the only the horse in training ro get anywhere near Kauto at levels prior to that. The Gold cup placings wont have much reflection on form next season.

    Denman aside that is.

At the start of the season all the talk was KS and ED and I don’t see that NC has done anything to change that. I certainly don’t think NC is capable of giving lumps of weight away to good horses and iif he takes on Kauto Star at his best he wouldn’t get within 10 lengths of him.

He has a good chance of a repeat win but I can’t see him winning like Kauto Star would at his best. That apparantly is what the handicapper expects of him. Whatever happens I can’t see him being a force next season his 3rd in the Gold Cup has put paid to that.

I see you have your Kauto Star blinkers on again Fist. This is how I see it, all IMVHO of course.

Kauto Star is capable of very high class performances up to 3 miles round the likes of Kempton, Sandown Ascot etc. Around Cheltenham and even to an extent Haydock (and even Aintree this year ) his performances don’t match that level. Exotic Dancer’s overrated rating is largely based on his performances against Kauto Star at the latter courses. Around Kempton over 3M for instance he’s not within 10lbs of Kauto Star, neither for that matter is much else. In this years Gold Cup I believe KS ran as well if not better than the previous years poor Gold Cup field. There were possible excuses for ED at Cheltenham but at Aintree I’m not so sure. Were there any excuses that came out of JJO’N yard for the performance ? I would put Exotic dancer as a low 170’s horse. Neptune Collonges was rated in the low 160’s before the Gold Cup and seems to have run the race of his life. Is it too much to consider he could improve 10-12lbs on his previous rating ? I would put NC on a similar level to ED. With regard to Kauto Star and Denman well thats a tricky one. For me Kauto Star’s performances at Kempton probably give him the edge on overall rating at the moment but it is highly possible that Denman could change that view in time. Denman is certainly better at running slower over a distance in soft ground.

    So in conclusion

    Exotic Dancer is overrated
Neptune Collonges LTO equalled any performance by ED, although I will say a rating of 178 is too high for me. Take 5 – 6 lbs off.
Kauto Star is better going right handed and its rating is justified on that form.
Denman is best at running slower and whose Gold Cup rating is as NC probably 5-6lbs too high.

As mentioned at the top all IMVHO of course

neptune needs to win with something in hand tommorrow imo if the form of the gold cup is to be taken seriously. At the time everyone seemed to think denman had run to a high mark, and kauto had run close to his best, with neptune running a massive best. But since then non of the placed horses have won or even run close to thier best (halcon ran ok i suppose).

Neptune Collonges looks the one to be on, though Tom Taaffe thinks Kicking King is in great form. That said, his last run does not inspire much confidence.

Should be odds on for me. Kicking King would be a surprise winner – I just dont think he is anywhere near as good as he was – and he would need to be right at his very best to beat NC.

NC still the one to beat and currently at 11-8 looks ok.

Could be 7-4 or- 2-1 on the day?

I will be opposing Kicking King in any way possible- he’s a shadow of his former self.
The fact that Neptune is the same price here as he was to beat trees at Wincanton means I won’t be backing him, but I think he’ll win.
