Lots of good horses entered though will see what happens when the draw is released. I’m really hoping Konchek takes part, he’s very well bred and was incredibly impressive on debut, winning while looking like he had plenty left in the tank.
May 22, 2018 at 04:40 #1354603I read that the Hannon horse Wedding Date is likely to either go straight to Royal Ascot or take in a race in France on 1st June.
Koncheck is the one that appeals to me but the runner up was disappointing next time out.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
May 22, 2018 at 06:41 #1354605That wedding date did look very impressive at Chester, but always hard to take form from that meet at 100% face value. To be fair Steve I’m yet to properly check out the form of koncheks win so that is disappointing that the 2nd underwhelmed next time out.
May 22, 2018 at 07:18 #1354609The horse who finished 2 3/4 lengths 3rd to konchek (Barned boy) is running today in the 1.50 Nottingham, will be good to see how that one gets on.
May 22, 2018 at 11:30 #1354616Hmm konchek gets stall 8 and blown by wind is even wider in 9. Vintage brut 5/1 from stall 1 is of interest having won by about 6lengths on debut and was going away at the finish, could front run here and pull away from the others before they get a chance to get into the race.
May 22, 2018 at 13:04 #1354623On Konchek to not great draw though i feel he can develop into Commenwealth cup type next season. 6f perfect next year
May 22, 2018 at 13:35 #1354628Yeah I agree about 6f being optimal next year. It’s a tricky one in this race I’m annoyed about stall 8. I think the horse has the most potential in the field but they’ll either have to front run (which I can’t see them doing on one with so much to learn) or hold it up at the back, it’s very hard to cruise through/outside of rivals on the bridle on the 5f track. I’m leaning towards the stall 1 horse (forgotten it’s name) just because it can dictate matters and power away before the others get a chance to get involved.
May 22, 2018 at 15:13 #1354637Barend Boy was rubbish today, not only 6th place but beaten more than 8 lengths into the bargain.
Simon Crisford’s Cool Exhibit made a nice debut to win by a couple of lengths.
It didn’t look like Barend Boy enjoyed the 6F today and I expect he’ll be back to 5F next time.
Konchek is out to 9/2 in a few places now.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
May 22, 2018 at 17:33 #1354648Personally, I feel that 9/2 about Konchek is worth taking regardless of the draw. He looked the part at HQ and certainly has the potential to be taking this along the way to the Royal meeting.
May 22, 2018 at 18:28 #1354649Thanks for the update Steve, interesting to see that Wedding date is still declared. Konchek is one of those that if it wins I’ll kick myself if I don’t back it, will probably just stick to small stakes on this race. The 5f track at Sandown is in the middle of the course aka perfect time to find a quiet spot and smoke a couple of j’s before the off 😁
May 23, 2018 at 21:33 #1354798Sabre looks a fair e/w price at 8s to me.
Had a horrendous trip on debut and still bolted up by 3L, even if those in behind aren’t much the way he did it was very impressive. Good draw on the inside, compared to most of the fancied hosses drawn wide.May 23, 2018 at 21:56 #1354802Vintage brut @ 11/2
May 23, 2018 at 22:30 #1354803Blown By Wind’s form hasn’t been working out and while Vintage Brut dotted up on debut, the ground is totally different this time.
The Hannon’s appear to have been talking out of their backsides regarding Wedding Date and I think I’ll just leave this race alone.
Just three days ago the story was this:-
Connections of Wedding Date are contemplating taking in a trip to France ahead of a potential shot at the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot.
The Richard Hannon-trained two-year-old could contest the Listed Prix la Flesche at Maisons-Laffitte over five furlongs on June 1 after going one better than on her debut at Brighton when running out an emphatic winner at Chester.
Tim Palin, spokesman for owners Middleham Park Racing, said: “We didn’t expect her to win like that. We knew the horse had ability and we were disappointed she didn’t win on her debut, but she didn’t handle the track and she was probably beaten by a good horse.
“She powered through the final furlong and with that sort of performance it is one that leaves you casting your eye over races at Royal Ascot.
“The decision now is whether to go straight to Royal Ascot or to a Listed race in France at Maisons-Laffitte.
“We will look at the opposition in France and make a decision two or three days beforehand. She was in the Marygate at York, but that came too soon after Brighton and Chester.
“If she goes straight to Ascot she will probably go for the Queen Mary rather than the Albany. It is a stiff five furlongs at Ascot and that will play to her strengths.”
When people say things like that and then the plan changes just days later, it really gets on my tits. Either say something meaningful or shut your hole.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
May 24, 2018 at 01:33 #1354812I’ve played Sabre @ 15/2 here.
Just about as impressive a debut as I’ve seen from any horse this season. Not a good race but he won with tons in hand despite getting a terrible run and being eased down. Looks very smart.
Sabre @ 15/2
May 24, 2018 at 11:20 #1354834Im glad the forecast was correct and the rain came for VB, more on the way hopefully, i think VB would probably be fine on faster ground, but no denying how he won on the softer surface.
May 24, 2018 at 11:32 #1354836Blown by Wind looks an awkward, gangly type and certainly not your prototypical 2 year old sprinter. I’d be surprised if he was the best of this bunch tonight.
May 24, 2018 at 11:46 #1354841He won’t be mate not on this track with that draw, they’re backing in the stall 1 horse unsurprisingly but am surprised konchek is out to 7s
