Got to be Stacelita for me.
She’ll appreciate the rain and being beaten a couple of lengths twice by Dar Re Mi (also beat Sariska) is good enough to finish ahead of Midday.
What do you guys think?
I don’t know too much about Rosanara.
July 31, 2010 at 09:36 #310152Like in the rain last year i think Midday can win again

I was a huge fan of Stacelita last season, but she wasn’t at all impressive when winning last time out, needs further and would probably
appreciate a little more rain.Over this trip I can only see her setting the race up for Midday. She looked a touch ill at ease behind Sariska on her reappearance, but ran on well to be a closing second despite having to concede 5lb.
Midday’s a top class filly and should be good enough to beat these.
July 31, 2010 at 12:50 #310191Barshiba’s going to go off in the lead, Strawberry Daiquiri right behind and Stacelita’s not going to settle. She’s also not a good horse. Place lay.
Strawberry Daiquiri for me, Stoute excels with older fillies.
July 31, 2010 at 14:00 #310202Luca Cumani won this race exactly a quarter of a century ago with Pat Eddery riding Free Guest.
CONTREDANSE is the strongest bet of the decade and the 3yo has an outstanding chance of improving and winning today and becoming Cumanis 2nd winner of this race 25 years after winning it initially.
July 31, 2010 at 15:18 #310219Great to see Henry picking up yet another group one.
The legend does it again.July 31, 2010 at 16:51 #310235Peculiar race – Midday went to the fore as if she would win by 10 lengths, then Stacelita plugs on and gets the Cecil filly off the bridle.
Agree, great to see Henry in the Grp 1 centre circle once again. However I cannot help but feel this particular animal is being stage managed some what. I suppose you cannot ask for much more than 3 Grp 1s but they are all against her own sex. The only time she took on the colts she was second to Debussy in Epsom’s Blue Riband Trial. Pointless comparing form of 24 months + ago, but Debussy is a Grp 3 animal at best, so how would Midday fare against the best 10f colts? I suppose Cecil knows full well having Twice Over in his care, which probably explains why Midday it seems will never take the colts on again.
This is sad imo because the only way a filly/mare can really put herself into the history books is to take on the colts. If she simply goes to America and wins another VERY weak race then what does that prove. What is to lose from pitching her in against the colts in either the BC Turf or even the Classic? At the very least they should be looking at the Ladies Classic? There’s enough American blood in the pedigree to at least have some hope she’d perform on the dirt.

I don’t think Midday is a megastar filly by any means but i think she’s a solid group one horse. My opnion is that she is becoming a bit of a character. The trip looked too short for her at York she was seemingly in trouble a long way out but she ran on strongly in the end. Today she showed good speed off an average pace then stopped herself then picked up again when headed.
Typical woman can’t seem to make her mind up what she wants to do.

I think she is actually improving now but also developing into a bit of a thinker.
July 31, 2010 at 20:21 #310268backed stacelita, thought it ran a good second. personally, i think this is her limit.
midday has a serious turn of foot with speed to burn.
July 31, 2010 at 20:53 #310276Looks like you’re right, del_boy. I’d thought Stacelita showed extraordinary ability, even by Group 1 standards.
I wonder if she was 100%. I also wonder if Midday has improved. Stacelita seemed to have been almost stopped, but it didn’t explain Midday’s instant acceleration, imo. Maybe she’ll vindicate the high opinion of her last year over further, as Ian suggested.
I think she was seventh in the Arc, but wonder if she might have actually been up to winning it this year, had it been an ordinary year. Who knows? Maybe she’ll still be special. I hope so. But that’s all it is: hope.
August 1, 2010 at 00:19 #310336The problem is Stacelita’s pedigree is dominated by softer ground 90% and the last time she got it was when she won her 1st group race on the bridle.
She looked totally uncomfortable today on this track and the going but still ran well was not travelling, was unbalanced and the slow pace didn’t help.
Barshiba was all at sea with Stacelita directly behind her and should’ve made it a test no way was she going to quicken of a slow pace.
Midday travelled ok and had benefit of c+d experience and was given a good ride quickening off a slow pace which allowed her to save a bit for the finish.
As for the Arc she didn’t stay the 1m4f last year but who knows if the ground comes up soft? She’ll be in her element and would be difficult to stop.August 1, 2010 at 12:57 #310383if the ground comes up soft, i think sariska will take all the beating.
