Not been. Same horse since won Welsh Grand National. Pulled up again today on ground in his favour and they had done wind operation to see if would help his form.
Surely the horse is saying he doesn’t want to do it anymore?Vf x
January 31, 2026 at 17:25 #1752719Yep – he clearly looks to have lost his appetite for the game. Time to retire him, in my opinion.
January 31, 2026 at 17:30 #1752722Agree. Seemed to be enjoying himself initially but started to struggle at the point where you’d think his stamina and love of desperate ground would give him an advantage.
January 31, 2026 at 17:37 #1752724This was another drop in class and he already struggled after jumping the 8th fence. I can’t see him becoming competitive again.
January 31, 2026 at 20:13 #1752738Even in that ground the trip (3m) was too short for him and it does seem that his love for the game has exited stage left.
Mr Vango cut out extremely tamely as well but I think the trip again was more the issue along with the winner going too quick for him – not an ideal run for a Grand National attempt and I would expect a much better run in the Haydock National Trial on 14 February which at 3m4f (and likely soft Haydock ground) will be much more likely to suit his style.
January 31, 2026 at 21:46 #1752752Perhaps he has had enough. A bit harsh to judge him on today’s conditions though I’d have thought. Still having to concede a fair bit of weight to some decent chasers. Josh did say going right handed would not be ideal. If his mark continues to plummet the lucrative world of veterans’ chases may be open next year.
January 31, 2026 at 23:32 #1752761Will the Veteran Chases be far enough trip wise for him though?
January 31, 2026 at 23:54 #1752765Doubt it. He’s pulled up in all of his races since his Chepstow victory (apart from when he plodded round in the Grand National without showing any enthusiasm for the course). I imagine they’ll retire him. Hope so anyway.
February 1, 2026 at 03:34 #1752814Only 9 but iam a bit out touch with French jumpers , they used to burn out pretty quick compared to Irish breds .
Its the old thing , owners know its unlikely they get one so good ever again so cling on desperately in hope it turms around form , pulled up every race now , its unlikely .
Earnt a good rest this one imho.February 1, 2026 at 09:46 #1752848Bear in mind he was still running off a higher mark yesterday than when he won at Chepstow. The reaction of the handicapper finished the horse from that point.
February 1, 2026 at 12:16 #1752898If he does continue to keep running, he strikes me as the type who’ll suddenly turn up at big odds but will quickly lose form again. Having said that, he does appear to be a bit ropey.
