Any news on the whereabouts of this one? I know obviously the festival’s been off the agenda more or less all season, but there’s been no sight or sound of him (that I’m aware of)since his disappointing run in the Peterborough
I seem to remember at the time Alan King mentioning he might be better off at a new stable. I very much doubt we’ll ever see him at the top level again but at one stage he seemed to have the world at his feet. Real shame
March 9, 2009 at 21:18 #214631Yes a real shame
Went in for a big un with him at Huntingdon, it was all or nothing, hack up or tail off, unfortunately the latter
I do believe i read somewhere Alan King had a chat with Paul ‘Wind Op’ Nicholls and he may well have been under the knife recently. He doesn’t have any entries at the moment and Aintree wasn’t exactly his stomping ground so maybe we won’t see him till next season. He is 9 now though so getting on and I expect we’ve seen the best of him.
Real shame his form curtailed but would be nice to see him back.
March 9, 2009 at 21:29 #214633He is fine.
He had a hobday operation about 6 weeks ago.
He is in light work at the moment.
March 9, 2009 at 21:33 #214635Nice to hear GaZ
I like this fellow would be great to see him winging some fences again soon
Is there any plan with him at the moment?
March 9, 2009 at 21:37 #214636None as of the moment, will be more likely that we may see him in a hurdle race towards the end of the season, or he will have a holiday over the Summer and then come back for next season.

Cheers for that fella
March 28, 2009 at 22:12 #218945unfortunately another extremely disappointing effort today. It really is sad to see.
I’m unaware of his circumstances (Gaz, you appear to be close to the King setup so any further input would be great) but surely it’s curtains now?
He was a terrific horse and it’s slightly upsetting to see him suffer these rather undignified losses. If he’s to get anywhere near the kind of standard that would do his talent any justice, then he has the proverbial mountain to climb and I just can’t see it happening at this stage in his career. As I said, I don’t know what those closest to him feel but my feeling is that it may be time to ‘draw stumps’
March 28, 2009 at 22:17 #218946A fav of mine too, not just because he wa profitable
He had bags of ability and the mark of true class in being able to run to a high standard over a variety of distances. Even when at his best hurdling he always looked like he would progress to be an even better chaser
Whatever it is, something is troubling him… A great shame
Some claim that kings often go backwards a bit after stellar starts to their careers, but in fairness, worth looking at katchits excellent Ch performance as evidence to the contrary
March 28, 2009 at 22:23 #218948He has now been retired according to the Racing Post race analysis. Glad to see it to be honest, lovely horse.
March 28, 2009 at 22:42 #218952Yes, he has been retired.
I have been a little of the pace this week, as i broke my foot earlier in the week, so i haven’t had the time to speak to people and get to race meetings, etc…
He has been retired, such a shame that he lost his way so much. An absolute favourite of mine, a lovely character at home, such a gorgeous lad, and a decent racehorse on his day.
March 28, 2009 at 23:16 #218966Lovely horse
March 28, 2009 at 23:28 #218968The right decision I feel.
Colin
March 29, 2009 at 00:40 #218989Fantastic Horse.
I’m glad he has been retired, will always have the memories of the WH & Arkle.
March 29, 2009 at 02:06 #218996Incredible how quickly My Way went from being a seriously good horse
to a horse that really has fallen out of love with the game! I really cant get my head round his demise!March 29, 2009 at 04:12 #219033Hope the old boy enjoys rest of his life.
Be good if he gets retrained as a show jumper or dressage horse.
All the best MWDS you did yourself proud.
March 29, 2009 at 06:22 #219046Finally the penny has dropped and someone is in agreement GW.
It must have been 18 months ago when I said the horse didn’t wan’t to know and the cries of rubbish came flowing in.
One minute Alan King is saying he needs a change of scenery the next thing he’s running him despite the fact that’s the last thing the horse wanted. Then it changes to a PN idea cut him up and put him back together again
Shoot me if you like but I can’t say I am too enamored with the way Alan King has conducted himself with his handling of MWDS. To be fair I have no idea how much the owner influenced his decisions but for an outsider looking in someone missed the obvious and did exactly what shouldn’t have been done.
Damn shame he’s now retired and he’s only 9 years old.
March 29, 2009 at 11:41 #219047I think that’s a bit unfair on Alan King [a trainer who makes a point of not running horses in the National against public opinion whenever he thinks the course won’t suit]..when you have a horse with such ability and potential you don’t suddenly give up with him at such a young age….seem to remember it took Jonjo a while for the penny to drop with Black Jack Ketchum. Anyway, lets hope My Way has a long and happy retirement. As a gypsy friend who had forgotten more about horses than most people have ever known told me, when a horse goes wrong in it’s body you can usually do something about it, but it’s much more difficult if it’s in their head.
