age
course form
distance form ground form
form in month
official rating ,last winning rating
since last run ,since last winning run
class last time ,out last class win
course wins
field wins
form at course

notes on the horsei got all this information on every horse each day and then try to go from there but iv noticed it took me on average of 3 hours for a 12 runner affair now this is very tiring work but tends to work with a £11.57 profit to a £1. i used to be a pro punter for 3 months and was getting 14.5% profit of a £2000 bank each week so obviously i had to change my aproach and look for a job as i wasnt making enough money.now back in work i find it near impossible to do the same systems and now have struggled to find any winners in the last month with the odd winner here and there from basically studying for 30minutes like a average saturday punter.

Looks like in my PM I pointed you in the direction of a site that is currently down.
I’m hoping this should be back up shortly
May 9, 2009 at 23:06 #226563Hi SK
Strange that i have tried to come up with several ways to pick winners with a good enough profit to be able to decrease my working hours and go part time.
But as you say there, you play your system, spend hours of hard study, and it starts well then staggers as mine was, like you had no winners for a while and i had the same scenario, and tried to tweak it in places but still not enough consistancy to really make it work.
So now i base my self around trainers for course’s, this is pretty good on ocassions as it does not give me a play every day, and usually throws up good prices when followed.
May 10, 2009 at 12:20 #226609I think most of us who have used systematic approaches eventually realise that we do not have the time, or more importantly the spare capital, to make it an occupation.
You really do need a lot of time to study the intricacies of form and it can be demoralising when such efforts are unrewarded. However, it can be a pleasurable and absorbing hobby, so the time spent is not altogether lost.
It has been shown on here on several occasions that profit margins are very small for successful punters. If you can make 5 per cent, you are probably at the top of the game. It follows that you need to invest very large sums and/or have a very large number of bets in order to make a living out of it. To ‘earn’ a living wage of £25,000 per annum, which is around the national average take home pay, you would need to turn over half a million a year or £10,000 a week. To allow for the possiblity of a losing run which might occur at the beginning of your betting, you would need a substantial bank, perhaps £50,000. So, it is not for the faint-hearted or those who have hostages to fortune such as wives and children.
Not surprisingly, such sums are beyond most people and even the most confident eventually realise that this game is only ever going to be a hobby. We all have a certain amount of vanity when it comes to betting and perhaps we feel that we can succeed where countless others have failed. I suppose that is a learning curve that has to be experienced, It can be a very long and very expensive one for those who think they can be a professional punter.
The hobbyist should enjoy the studying without letting it steal away precious time from other worthwhile pursuits.
May 11, 2009 at 23:10 #227019thanks for the replys,im looking at doing timming and sectionals over the flat as i find that form figures on it doesnt mean as much as it does over national hunt. anyone got any advice on this?
June 4, 2009 at 02:08 #231850Why not try some lay selections and use one of the exchanges.I know it isn’t rocket science and I’m cheating to a certain extent by using a selection service but little by little I am getting towards 150 a week. Not massive but better than nowt.
It still takes a bit of time to get the lays on and if you get greedy it can be back to sq1 but its better than nothing.
Anyway, good luck however you do it.
This time next year etc etc etcJune 5, 2009 at 12:16 #232110Choice of words – selection system – worked out with another sad punter. Its our own service/system. Sorry for confusion.
