Hello all
All my posts to date have been in the Big Races-Discuss section. I thought there might be a single thread for daily fancies, but unless I’ve missed it, it seems that everyone starts a new thread for their own…so here goes.
I won’t have too many to put on here as I tend to keep to the big races which I plough through for far longer than is probably healthy.
I like York, and they have a couple of decent big handicaps today at 2.30 and 3.05.
I like Oisin Murphy very much, and he has a good chance on Dungannon (2.30) who has shown improved form on his last two runs at Ascot and Haydock after 2 years without looking like winning. He has gone up 8lbs as a result running off 84. You could make a case for him as he has won off 95 two years ago, and of course the very talented Murphy takes 5lbs off him. Problem for me is that it’s hard to keep that peak form and win 3 times off the bounce, and I’m not overly inclined to take a skinny 5-1 in a 20 runner sprint.
Kyleakin Lass has kind of lost her way since winning at Ffos Las last September, but on her last two races has looked a better horse and was a good running on second at Leicester last time out. She will be covered up in the race, so needs a bit of luck with the breaks, but Richard Hughes is a plus when it comes to finding a way through. 12-1 (general)is a pretty decent bet, e/w should be a relatively safe bet.
I also like Imperial Legend who looks like an improving horse. He won well at Haydock with Tom Queally on board the run before last, and ran a good race at Ayr last time, under an apprentice, where he was just caught close home. Queally is back on board and although he runs off his highest mark, I think he is improving. 14-1 (Hills) is a bit of value, again e/w can be considered.
I suppose I’m just killing time until tomorrows Cesarewitch, but I’m going to split the two and hope one comes in.
Good luck
Kyleakin Lass e/w…(2nd 16-1)
Imperial Legend e/w (unplaced 16-1….6th)October 11, 2013 at 12:34 #454535Good luck with this G.
October 11, 2013 at 12:57 #454538Thanks VTC,
Just been having a look through the first, I like keith Dalgleish as a trainer, and Sandra’s Diamond is of interest, but the 6lbs added for her last win is a bit off putting in a tougher race, I think that the 11-1 for Iftaar is too big so I’m having a small interest on him
2.00 York Iftaar, 11-1 (unplaced)
October 11, 2013 at 14:01 #454547Well Kyleakin Lass is keeping the boat afloat having run a good 2nd at 16-1.
In the 3.05 at York, at least half the field could win this, so I’m not going to take anything other than decent odds.
Robert the painter is a bit of a Ripon and Beverly specialist, which is a bit of a worry, however he did run 2nd at York in June. He also ran a good race to be 3rd at Ayr, before the Cambridgeshire where he was eased considerably when his chance had gone. 20-1 is worth an e/w
3.05 York Robert the Painter 20-1 e/w (unplaced….7th)
Behind leaders, lost place…ran on again but too late.October 13, 2013 at 13:51 #454813I have put a summary for this in the Big Race-Discussion forum.
Curragh 4.40
Crystal Earth e/w 33-1 BetvictorOctober 18, 2013 at 23:04 #455339A cracking meeting with top class animals in top notch races, and an impossible 29 runner apprentice handicap race thrown in at the end just to meet all tastes.
I’m puting forward only the ones I’ve been bold enough to stick my hard earned on. I won’t explain my reasons here for picking them, but if anyone is interested enough, I have expanded in the Big Races-Discussion forum
1.45 Ascot…. Times up (16-1 Stan James)
2.20 Ascot…. Balmont Mast (18-1 betvictor)
4.05 Ascot…..Fahrr (7/2 general)……… won at 11/4also adding a small ew
4.05 Ascot ….Main Sequence (80/1 general)October 19, 2013 at 15:43 #4554924.45 Ascot…..Fury (9/1)
October 25, 2013 at 13:36 #456098Probably a bit speculative, but I know that old bugger Secret Witness is going to pop up in a race like this. He has done nothing of late to indicate this is his day, but when he gets his racing head on he would be capable of beating a field like this.
He did run a good race in the Portland 4 races back at Doncaster, and he has won at the course which gives some hope he will perform well here.
Ron Harris has decided to let him run here rather than the bigger £47,000 race at Donny tomorrow. I hope that’s an indication he fancies him for this.
3.10 Doncaster
Secret Witness e/w (33/1 PP)***Ran an absolute stinker
***October 26, 2013 at 13:59 #4562893.05 Aintree
Viva Colonia 14/1 e/w PP……3rd 16/13.50 Doncaster
Somewhat 17/2 BV & WHNovember 3, 2013 at 13:00 #457193The Cork National looks a cracking race, even if it’s a bit of a lottery. I like the look of Another Palm who ran a good race in this 2 years ago finishing a close 2nd. That was a decent effort for a 6yr old and at 8yrs and only 3lbs higher, he has to have a decent chance.
His last run at Gowran Park was a decent effort, finishing 5th but running on over 3m1f. Conditions don’t matter to him as he has won on both heavy and gf. 18/1 is a very decent e/w.
Cork 3.25pm Another palm (18/1 bet365)……..3rd, returned 14/1
Tipped up Harry Topper yesterday in the "big-race discussions" at 8/1, forgot to mention him on this forum….oops.
November 9, 2013 at 02:09 #457732Rios Rosanna has run some solid races and won on soft ground. His 2nd on soft in a very good handicap, the Sky Bet Stakes at York in August, off 85 gives him every chance here if in the mood. He also ran a good race in September off 87 over 1m 3 1/2f at Carlisle, running on at the finish.
His last two runs, after the Carlisle race, on the results alone don’t look encouraging, but the first of those, at York, you can write off as he had his hood removed late and lost all chance at the start.
He is down 2lbs as a result, running off 85, and for the first time he has a decent apprentice in Connor Beasley taking a further 5lbs off his back. The 40/1 with Coral and Stan James is way too big
3.35 Doncaster… Rios Rosanna 40/1 e/w (2nd returned 33/1)
Also….
Owen Glendower has shown enough to be worth a squeak e/w
at 40/1 in the badger Ales2.40 Wincanton… Owen Glendower e/w 40/1 (Stan James, 33-1 general)….(ran a stinker)
November 16, 2013 at 14:09 #458634The Paddy Power, a cracking race and a nightmare at the same time betting wise.

Grandioso 7/1 with SJ…….Pulled up

Ma Filleule 16/1………fell
(I already advised taking the 22/1 a couple of days ago)February 22, 2014 at 11:32 #468788A cracking day’s racing, probably the last good Saturday afternoon before Cheltenham.
In the Dovecot I’m ducking the obvious favourite in Irving and hoping that Cup Final turns out to be the horse they thought he was before his injury in the race won by Irving where he lost by 4 lengths. In the Eider I’m hoping that Swatow Typhoon stops being the sulky B he has been and that the first time blinkers do the trick. If they do, he is well handicapped and will relish the ground and extra distance.
Lastly, in the Betbright I’ve had a decent bet on Tour De Champs at 20/1, so I am quite happy, but I wouldn’t go back in for him at 6/1, so for my daily offering I’m putting up Niceonefrankie who is still a decent price at 14/1. I backed him earlier at a bit more but still think he is backable at 14s.
2.15 Kempton……Cup Final 9/1 general
2.55 Newcastle….Swatow Typhoon 18/1 (Stan James)
3.50 Kempton……Niceonefrankie 14/1 generalMarch 29, 2014 at 14:50 #4736273.15 Doncaster
Silvery Moon 16/1 general.
If he’s fit after his lay off he must go very close here.
3.50 Doncaster
Tullius 8/1 general. (already advised at 16/1 in Big Race Discussion)
Is a class act and had a cracking young jockey taking 3lbs off his back.
