There may be a glimmer of hope for Musselburgh’s meeting on Wednesday.
The temperature was up to 5 degrees in the East yesterday with rain in the evening. The sky cleared overnight and temperature in Dunfermline dropped to around freezing this morning, and I expect it was about the same in Musselburgh. Frost is forecast for tonight, but according to the forecast no frost Tuesday night. If that’s accurate and Monday’s frost comes out of the ground then the meeting will be OK.
The forecast has to be trusted, and it’s still a bit touch and go, but there is a fair chance the meeting will go ahead.

January 5, 2009 at 15:11 #201696Its frosty but sunny today. I’d be surprised if Musselburgh doesn’t make it on Wed.
January 5, 2009 at 17:05 #201714Inspecting 09:00 Tuesday. – currently unraceable as at 12:00 Monday
January 5, 2009 at 17:46 #201724The Met Office website gives a temperature of -2 overnight then a maximum of 2 degrees tomorrow. On that basis if it’s currently unraceable then I’d be doubtful that the frost would come out of the ground by Wednesday. I’d say it’s a certainty to be unraceable come inspection time at 9 am tomorrow.

Anthea Morshead is quoting a forecast of -4 tonight and -3 Tuesday night.
Which sounds even less optimistic
January 6, 2009 at 00:04 #201811They race on snow in Switzerland….can`t we put spikes on them
January 6, 2009 at 00:07 #201812It’s seriously baltic here a mere 6 miles or so from the track, and they are surely long odds-against to pass an inspection.
January 6, 2009 at 00:16 #201814Is this a quizz Grassy? I will translate………"it would freeze the balls off a brass money here and there’s no chance of racing"…….quite polite for a Glaswegian Grassy what you think?

January 6, 2009 at 14:18 #201906which is a shame as its currently 3c according to my car…and there was no frost on the cars this morning…
January 6, 2009 at 14:29 #201907Apparently minus five overnight and the ground described as "rock solid" with "no prospect of the frost coming out of the ground."
January 6, 2009 at 14:47 #201910which is a shame as its currently 3c according to my car…and there was no frost on the cars this morning…
Leith Links is frozen solid, underscore……………frost just isn’t getting a chance to come out of the ground……….
January 6, 2009 at 16:05 #201917well get down there with a hair dryer! I can’t believe all we have on is class 6 drivel that shouldn;t even be called Horseracing (sorry i’ve just realised there is a class 4 with up and coming star The Tatling)…. I’m going to have to end up doing some DIY and a trip to the recycling tip at this rate….
January 6, 2009 at 20:19 #201965Looks like there could be a decent compensatory card for Northern racing at the weekend as Ayr putting on an extra card.
We had hoped to run our Lucky Nellerie as we were led to believe there was a decent 3m4f race but it has turned out to be a 3m1f event.
Nellerie had Borders National (Dec 7th Kelso) as his target but that was abandoned…as was plan B the decent 3m4f event at Haydock on Dec 30th. He is now in the North Yorks National which he won last year (Catterick Thurs) & the Classic Chase at Warwick on Saturday. However, both meetings look set to be lost so it will be the 3m4f handicap at Haydock on 17th…weather permitting!!!
