The racecourse has appealed to racing fans and local residents to make the royal visit a family occasion.
The “usual” price on the day admission fee of £25 will apply – Since when has £25 been the normal admission price for a Friday afternoon meeting at Musselburgh?

Back in the early 1980s I was employed by a computer bureau which, for reasons of space, had an enclave next door in the offices of a road haulage company under the same corporate umbrella.
It was announced one day that HRH The Princess Royal had accepted an invitation from the road haulage company to come and drive one of their HGVs. Prior to this visit, the existing and quite serviceable lavatory within those offices was totally gutted and replaced by a state-of-the-art lavatorial facility that would not have disgraced any royal residence you might care to name.
History does not record whether or not HRH used the new facilities (cost approx. £5,000) but I’m guessing that many, if not all, buildings hosting a royal visit install a new toilet as a matter of course. This is because it would contravene aristocratic protocol for a Royal Bottom to use a lavatory seat which has been previously occupied by a common bottom.
That said, I must confess that if HRH did require the use of the new loo in my old offices then she was beaten to the punch by at least one commoner.

Apparently if you stick a disco or a little known music act on the end it justifies and extra charge. These days I just stick to my Kelso reciprocals for Musselburgh visits plus the New Year and Cheltenham Trials meetings.
