Had a shortlist of half a dozen for this, and don’t know if I’m happy or not that only two of them are in there…

The two off the early shortlist are Siberian Prince, and El Barra.
El Barra was on my mind for this after being well supported at Listowel, and they’ll surely be expecting some compensation after his early exit. Best priced 5’s though, and that’s enough for him to leave at this stage. Can’t see me betting at that price, and I can’t see him being any bigger. Big big player here.
Siberian Prince went straight into the notebook for this after his run here in May. His two runs since have confirmed to me that he should be at the very least competitive here, and the 25’s looks the wrong price. The only thing stopping me having an Antepost punt right now is that I’m sure there’s another race at the meeting that he’s ideal for.
No Antepost then, and probably for the best, but no harm in looking.
Recent Kerry National winner Busselton is bang there surely. I thought he won that very well, and I like the fact that he was battling it out with a good yardstick in Hewick. Don’t think he’s been hammered for that.
Far too many from the Elliott yard to pick through at this stage. This is the type of race that Battleoverdoyen should be targeting this year, and his last three runs suggest that he can figure, though he’s also due out tomorrow. His big gun is obviously Run Wild Fred, but he’s another due out at Punchestown. He’s likely to have a very definite plan this year, and it’s anybody’s guess as to whether something like this is part of the plan. As I said, far too many from the yard to take a really strong view on, even a week and a half away, and jockey bookings on the day should tell us more. Frontal Assault looks well treated, and the 10’s is probably a good bit better than what he’ll start at. His Coko Beach is the only who really catches my eye at 25’s. If he’s good to go at this stage, then the current odds are way wrong. A strange one for me in that he’s a proper notebook horse who I’ve managed to not have a bet on yet. I really like him though, and this is the perfect race for him.
Eric McNamara likes a go at this, and I thought that he managed to get a good run out of old Real Steel last time. Easy to think that the horse is gone, but I thought there were signs that the change of scenery might just get a nice prize out of him. Obviously miles away from the company he’s been keeping in recent times, but I’m definitely considering him. McNamara also has Donkey Years in here, and he’s my pick of the JP entries.
A quick nod also to Velvet Elvis, and Waitnsee. Both from smaller yards, but both more than capable here.
At a push, Siberian Prince would be my two right now, and with me not having an early bet, I’m sure I’ll kick myself for not taking the 25’s and 16’s
Early Shortlist
Coko Beach 25’s
Donkey Years 16’s
Real Steel 25’s
Siberian Prince 25’sEdit Final Decs
Reserves sorted out, so I’ll stick with Coko Beach as planned, to go with Donkey Years. Both still drifting, so no money down yet.
October 15, 2022 at 12:00 #1618518Farclas is a horse that’s a bit frustrating, but he’s the one that’s of interest just now. I’m not keen to rush in at 14-1 just now, but I’m sure I’ll bet him for this eventually
I think that Frontal Assault is also very tempting just now
October 22, 2022 at 11:43 #1619535Its a very trappy looking renewal this year, and I’m tentatively siding with Floueur as the second string at 14-1, with the main bet being Velvet Elvis at 14-1
October 22, 2022 at 17:12 #1619603I’ve taken 20/1 on The Big Dog, and I think that that’s an ok offer if anywhere near his best
October 22, 2022 at 22:25 #1619644I’ve tweaked recent form adjustment to my ratings and will give it a go for the better Irish handicaps:
158 Max Flamingo
154 Coko Beach
153 Ain’t That A Shame
151 Lieutenant Command
151 Darrens HopeOf thsoe five I like Max Flamingo best for this one, fair run in a Grade 3 novice over a shorter should set him up for this. Ain’t That A Shame is lightly raced with some very solid performances in the bag last winter despite still being a maiden over fences. Stamina test suits.
October 22, 2022 at 22:53 #1619647I honestly tried to look at this race, but by the time I saw the third Gigginstown cap I started to lose the will to live and gave up.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"October 23, 2022 at 07:01 #1619686Ian don’t let that bar steward O’Leary win ….have a go , looking at it it’s trying to guess which 1 Gigginstown is trying with , Coko beach started last year off 150 , no wins and he,s only dropped to 146 however the last run was the GN and McGivern takes off 7lb ….would be a nice first time winner , off the JP brigade early doors is consistant and looks value e.w

Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
October 23, 2022 at 07:06 #1619687Vtc Real Steel looked gone at Nicholls but I reckon while he,s an outstanding trainer he isn’t someone id id have
for turning around a sour or problematic horse ,( he,s a routine trainer ) , I’ll be watching Real Steal with interest if he runs , wonder what the plan is for him ….would they try cross country ?Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
October 23, 2022 at 09:52 #1619695Seven year olds have won this race for the last four years. Only four such runners go to post.
Gigginstowns Coko beach was last seen 65 lengths eighth behind Noble Yeats at Aintree.
Third top weight here is as good as top weight.
Seven pound claimer Corey Mcgivern.
Gordon Elliott trained.

Quotes on Coko Beach (FR)“Jack (Kennedy) said he’s better in a big field, with horses around him, where something can keep him travelling. I’d imagine we’ll keep him at home and he might go for the Irish National.”

28/1 currently…. (1009)October 23, 2022 at 09:53 #1619697Watched the price on Velvet Elvis evaporate in front of my eyes without acting so i’ve left him.
Only dart is Lieutenant Command,
Good record fresh. Very capable of 140. Eoin Walsh 5lb no bad thing.
The head of the market is very tight currently, and i’ll happily sit out having a second at this stage.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!October 23, 2022 at 12:44 #1619734Chucked Lieutenant Command in a small wager patent with 2 others at Aintree.
Plus, a small win only on Coko Beach.I’m flushed after 3 big priced winners yday in Legend Of Xanadu (33/1), Knight and Max Vega.
October 23, 2022 at 13:16 #1619744I’m willing to forgive Floueur a tame end to last season due to the Punchestown conditions in the Grand National trial
Her win at Fairyhouse prior to that is decent form; Russell is riding well and comfortably the best course jockey in the fieldWorried about Velvet Elvis though
October 23, 2022 at 13:25 #1619745“Ian don’t let that bar steward O’Leary win ….have a go”
Hurricane Georgie for a giggle, then.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"October 23, 2022 at 14:28 #1619760It’s definitely a race where I’d like more than one selection, so I’ve went with Early Doors at 16-1 and Hurricane Georgie at 22-1
October 23, 2022 at 15:43 #1619774Really feel for backers of Aint That A Shame…looked like O’Keefe just got it wrong at the last ?
October 23, 2022 at 15:46 #1619775WD Autumnal
October 23, 2022 at 15:46 #1619776Aint That A Shame got in close to more than one on the way round, notably the last on the far side on the last circuit, and unfortunately that mistake at the last was one too many. The Big Dog is a relentless stayer and had too much momentum as the leader tried to recover.
Well done Autumnal, cracking selection.
