While Mullins will have a hat full of winners it looks more likely that Henderson will win most of the bluechip races , he’s going to win the Champion hurdle , Ryanair and prob the Arkle , Mullins may win the Champion chase ( prob 50/50 ) and also has the GC fav , stayers is wide open , if Henderson wins the 3 does that confirm him as the top man ? , quality over quantity ?

Mullins will obviously have more winners than Henderson, but the biggest bankers are Nicky’s. Constitution Hill, Luccia and Shishkin (if he goes for the Ryanair) all look absolutely bombproof, whereas Mullins’ big guns all have question marks of some sort about them.

It’ll be interesting to see which of them has the higher percentage of winners to runners as well; might well be Henderson there.

I couldn’t personally describe a horse who has clearly had the issues Shishkin has had as “bombproof,” but if he turns up fit and well and runs like he did yesterday he will win the Ryanair and daylight will be second.

I don’t actually much care about who trains the winners – I back horses, not people and the trainer to me is just a faceless stat, who is in or out of form.

My jackpot was on Shishkin last year had him at 33’s, 8’s 7’s for the Arkle and Champion Chase double..
I’m pleased he bolted up yesterday as it kind of vindicated that he wasn’t just “overrated”

Mullins has very good chances in both the CC and GC
    Henderson has the CH
Is the Ryanair a blue chip race? Think the media etc big it up more than its worth. The Stayers would be Thursdays big race imo

The reality surely is that the Champion Hurdle, the Champion Chase and the Cheltenham Gold Cup are the REAL blue chip races in the eyes of most.

The Ryanair and Stayers’ Hurdle share a day for a reason and I’d agree the Stayers’ is the bigger race of the two.

But there has to be room in my book for a championship at the intermediate distance.

The answer to getting it accepted is changing it’s name to the historic and rightful Cathcart title, subjecting the former sponsor’s owner to a perpetual ice bucket challenge throughout the entire four days. close to the paddock, and constantly assuring racegoers over the tannoy they’re next if they don’t cheer the Cathcart winner home as loudly as the other Grade 1 winners.

Given the general policy of his airline, it’s always been clear to me that even as part of the Cheltenham Festival, the Ryanair should be run at Chepstow. With no corporate hospitality, no trophy, low level prize money and an owners and trainers bar stocked solely with salted peanuts and bottled water.

Jonbon isn’t even favourite for the Arkle, so he’s probably only going to win it in your opinion.

Shiskin with his record is a laugh also- mega impressive on Saturday, but i wouldn’t want to be waiting on him for a multi with his list of problems he’s had.

Was Henry De Bromhead your top dog the last couple of years? He’ll have Champion Hurdles + Gold Cups.

As for the quality over quantity angle, Luccia looks decent, but where’s his quality in the novice divisions?……

Don’t forget Gordon Elliott. He has Gerri Colombe, Mighty Potter and a stranglehold on the Cross Country Chase. Bound to have a few well weighted handicappers running for him too.

“Bound to have a few well weighted handicappers running for him too.”

Are you suggesting some of his horses might have been “tenderly handled” in their previous races, Mike?

The very idea of Elliott doing anything like that! We all know only Ronan McNally pulls those sort of stunts. ;-)

He wont win the champion hurdle or the arkle he might win the ryanair though and he’ll win the mares novice

    As for “blue chip races”

    There is only 3

    In order
    GC-CC-CH

    The rest – meh

Jack Johnbon might not be favourite but he has the best form and has beaten the Mullins horse , he has also run well at Cheltenham , Mullins horse has that test to pass yet , the point in making is which would other posters like , he quantity of Mullins or the quality of Henderson

Ham, think the CH is more valuable than the 2MCC, so would suggest it’s more prestigious. The GC will always be the big one.

I no longer think mullins will have as many winners as it looked a few months back

Nicky and Gordon have some very good bullets to fire with

    Jonbon
    The hill
    Epatante/Marie’s rock
    Shiskin
    Luccia
    Gerri colombe
    Teahupoo
    Delta work/galvin
    Mighty potter

Plus Gordon’s inevitable plot jobs in the kim muir and Martin pipe

HDLG, without a doubt he doesn’t have the best form over fences…..

Nicky hasn’t anymore quality than WPM though?

Constitution Hill is the only standout really, but WPM has GDCs potentially.

Then there’s the novice hurdles + chasers? Nicky doesn’t have the “quality” WPM has?
