I would just like to say that IMHO it was a shocking ride that O’Brien gave the horse. Yes I backed it but that aside, I just wonder if J O’Brien was J Bloggs would he be riding the horses he does and for the champion irish trainer
I very much doubt it.June 26, 2013 at 21:29 #444081It will soon be October/November.
Blackbeard to conquer the World
June 26, 2013 at 21:49 #444083It might not be Joseph’s fault.
Here is what’s reported in the Racing Post Analysis about Moth.
Moth, who had finished in the frame in the 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket and the Epsom Oaks, was the clear form pick here but she ran no sort of race and never threatened. She met with slight traffic problems about a furlong and a half out but it made little or no difference as she appeared well beaten at the time. It is quite possible something was amiss.
Only time will tell!
June 26, 2013 at 23:11 #444093If this was, as it appeared, a confidence building drop in class, for the filly, it was a truly shocking ride.
The second string who won the race was, behind Moth, but Heffernan, who is a far better jockey, in my opinion, switched outside, and won the race.
Why on earth would you go inside, and risk traffic problems, on a filly , on who you are trying to give a confidence building victory.
The phrase re slight traffic problems, is an understatement.
Nepotism has a limit, I wonder how long "the boys" will put up with it ?June 27, 2013 at 02:27 #444095In most of her races she has been held up and waited with leaving her open to meeting traffic problems in running. On one occasion when she did hit the front and lead early she got headed and finished 3rd, I would imagine she is a difficult ride to get right.
Coolmore caused another upset winning the race with Venus de Milo, but these so called ‘upsets’ are not uncommon take
War Command 20/1 beat Stubbs (6th 5/2f)at Royal Ascot.
2012 1000 Guineas Homecoming Queen 25/1 beat Maybe (3rd 13/8f) and
2012 Oaks Was 20/1 beat Maybe again (5th 100/30).
All owned by the Smith, Magnier, Tabor partnership.I believe in France all horses from the same trainer are coupled in bets, not quite sure how it works but sounds as if punters would benefit in the case of Coolmore runners.
JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...June 27, 2013 at 05:12 #444097As you know I have been a voice crying in the wilderness about this subject. All parent’s geese are swans.See Paddy Mullins who wanted Tony to ride Dawn Run in the Cheltenham Gold Cup. If Joseph ‘s last name was not O’Brien we would never have heard of him and five years from now we wont.To put an incompetent lad on all those group one horses is simply a sin.Just imagine how good the winners he rides must be!
June 27, 2013 at 07:31 #444103How many winners you rode from your computer screen Andy?
Thought as much.

What about Agatha Christie’s sons Linford and Tony?

That has absolutely nothing to do with it.
I haven’t seen the ride so cannot comment but to suggest somebody cannot have a negative opinion of a jockey purely because they are not a jockey themselves is bordering on ludicrous.
Personally, I am not his biggest fan either and I weigh that into calculations when deciding whether to back one of his mounts. That’s not to say I wouldn’t back it but it would need to have a standout chance – or offer perceived good value – for me to do so.
and FWIW, while not overly complicated, I thought his ride on Leading Light at Ascot was very good.

June 27, 2013 at 11:32 #444116Heffo will be fired if he keeps this up. Beating the super son at Fairyhouse and now at Naas but Ascot. OMG! It was OK beating Murtagh but not the Golden Boy.
