The annual thread on the best named race of the year. Just over two hours after the 3 year old blue bloods have run at Epsom, the first juvenile hurdle of the new jumps season is run at Hexham.

There are only five runners and the race probably won’t take much winning. One Horse Town for the shrewd Harry Derham stable is favourite and it will be no great surprise to see him win.

Not sure I want to get involved at 5/4 but might have a small punt if this afternoon’s results go well.

Another reason for the Derby to be returned to its midweek slot: so that a horse can complete the Epsom-Hexham double.

Although it would require Hexham to change the race title to “… this week”.

    “Next stop the Triumph Hurdle.”

    Told you. ;-)

OK, I know Mullins has no doubt got a dozen that can beat him – but he must have been as good as a certainty at Hexham that day. A well above average juvenile for that time of year and perhaps he has not stopped winning yet.

I only wish I had backed him yesterday. He was around 14/1 when the betting opened.

Thank you Nathan. I wanted a break from all things social media. I also lost interest in the Flat season, which I thought was rather dull and uninspiring this year. I am pleased to see the quality jumps racing is back.
