I can’t wait to see this horse tomorrow. If anywhere near fit he must win in a canter.
I still can’t get over how he beat Annie Power, it is still a mystery to me as I thought and still do think Annie Power is a machine, but hey ho.
Let’s hope he gets back on track tomorrow.
I think 7/4 is a gift.November 12, 2015 at 20:01 #1221388I never quite ‘got’ him, and couldn’t understand all the enthusiasm after his Cheltenham ‘prep’ before his Festival victory. Just couldn’t take to him, even after that WH win
Reminded me of At Fisher’s Cross in the way he travelled in his sole appearance last year – going like a horse who was hurting throughout the race.
Will watch with interest tomorrow
November 12, 2015 at 20:19 #1221393Hey, I may not be giving him enough credit but I am still of the opinion that AP simply pulled too hard early on in that race and didn’t finish it off as we know she can.
In any case, he still needs to put that woeful performance at last year’s Hennessy meeting behind him and he has a bit on his plate tomorrow in what is a hot little race over a distance that is short of his best. I think of equal interest will be how Ballyalton (6-1) runs – he was still in contention when unseating over an inadequate 2m on his first run back since going down by only 4.5L to Faugheen in the Neptune.
No Irish jump racing tomorrow but it is still interesting to see that Ruby Walsh is coming over for just one ride on Dollar And A Dream for Tony Martin in the 3:25.
November 12, 2015 at 20:52 #1221404The horse I’m also looking at is Ballyalton. 13/2 is not a bad price, if he stays on his feet and the fact that he handles the course’s demands very well, make him quite interesting. I won’t be taking anything away from More Of That, but 1st time out over fences at this track doesn’t make his debut easier.
Are there any stats about WH winners taking to fences. Most of them don’t switch to chasing and I really can’t remember a WH winner (nor a CH winner) becoming a G1 chaser later in the past 25 years. Please help and correct me if I’m wrong.November 12, 2015 at 21:01 #1221419To be honest I can’t have the fav on my mind . I think the massive rating it has is down to one run!! (Annie Power)
The rest of them and the fav are all pretty closely rated on hurdles form if you disregard the Annie Power run of the fav.My advice would be to have a combo exacta/forecast on As De Mee Ballyalton and Dell Arca.
Might Bite is likely to need the run the fav will too and Doubble Shuffle and Society Man probably aren’t good enough.
As long as the forecast pays more than six quid you will be in profit!!
November 12, 2015 at 21:24 #1221426My Way De Solzen – World Hurdle 2006, Arkle Chase 2007
Bacchanal – World Hurdle and feltham Novice Chase, both in 2000
But none that have managed a World Hurdle and a Grade 1 chase outside novice company afaik.

I hope that Grade 1 in Novice company is the RSA then AP..Gold Cups can wait.
November 12, 2015 at 21:46 #1221429Thanks apracing. I was too lazy to search for My Way De Solzen, but I completely forgot about Bacchanal. Anyway, the stats don’t really favour the WH winner to be a chasing superstar. A hurdles rating in the lower 150s would be more fitting for this fellow. But that doesn’t count any longer, because tomorrow they will enter a new discipline.
November 13, 2015 at 08:04 #1221449Perhaps the closest to achieving the double was Rule Supreme. He won the Irish Gold Cup in February 2005 and five weeks later, finished a close 3rd to Inglis Drever in the World Hurdle. And the previous year, he’d won the French Grand Course Des Haies at Auteuil, their equivalent of the World Hurdle, just three months after taking the Sun Alliance Chase.
Certainly supremely versatile.
Returning to the race this afternoon, I’m in the camp that thinks More Of That has plenty to prove and that this is a really tough introduction to chasing. As a trends man I note that the last nine winners of this race have been six year olds and the last horse older than that to win was in 2002 – and he probably got lucky as the odds on Keen Leader (aged six) fell.
November 13, 2015 at 13:53 #1221492Nice prospect for the season. I did think he was a little bit short at one or two fences but he will improve in time.
Understandable though that many would have preferred to watch and see than have a bet on him. Tidy little gift for droffats and anyone else who had him.November 13, 2015 at 13:59 #1221493Opened at 9/4 which really was a gift – in retrospect.
November 13, 2015 at 15:47 #1221521Well done droffats, TAPK, and others
Hate to seem as though I’m crabbing horses, but again I got the impression that MOT has something intermittently jamming his carburettor. I always like horses who stretch their necks, keen to get to the winning post in front, but I get the definite impression with him that he does it to try and get more air in.
However, he seemed not in the least distressed after the race, so perhaps my eye deceives me
November 13, 2015 at 16:17 #1221524Fair play to him, won that with the minimum of fuss and was very professional at his fences – wonder if he will now go to the 2m4f novice chase on the Friday of the Hennessy meeting that Coneygree won last year.
November 13, 2015 at 17:21 #1221536I didn’t fancy him a bit.
Another good call Droffats well played sir.

November 13, 2015 at 19:04 #1221548Just shows what I know!!!
I was actually quite impressed with his jumping and he does look an exciting prospect.
November 13, 2015 at 19:10 #1221551If you look at the WH winners who actually ran over fences, they haven’t done so bad considering injury stepped in with most.
Only winners to go chasing since 1995 were:
Doran’s Pride – Won Irish Hennessey and Powers Gold Cup and placed in Cheltenham Gold Cup.
Cyborgo – Won three of his four novice chases including the (now Grade 1) Mildmay.
Karshi – Won his only chase start before leg injury ended career.
Princeful – injured in his only race over fences.
Bacchanal – Feltham winner, placed in King George.
Iris’s Gift – Had scope to be just as good over fences but injured (fracture) prior to chasing career; though winning three never recaptured best hurdles form.
My Way De Solzen – Arkle winner.Very genuine, finds plenty under pressure, jumped well (safely) in the main today, am confident More Of That will prove top class over fences if keeping free from injury/breathing problems.
Value Is EverythingNovember 13, 2015 at 19:59 #1221557Another thing to bear in mind is that he had a unique profile for a Stayers winner. Extremely lightly raced.
