May 1, 2008 at 14:37 #160942Whatever next? News that a head lad of Nicky Richards is under investigation?
May 1, 2008 at 15:27 #160951Maybe in five years time James Shite might be asked some questions about today’s events.
May 1, 2008 at 17:01 #160975I’d be stunned if Paul Blockley was guilty of anything.
May 1, 2008 at 17:45 #160980Thank god something is finally being done about Dean McKeown. I can think of at least one trainer who may now have a case of the bum-squeaks…
May 1, 2008 at 19:07 #160990I am not at least a bit surprised. There is another thread on here about transport costs and how memeber ended up losing money.
How anyone can expect at he sport to stay corruptiob free when owners are losing money is beyond me. No one spends thousands of pounds without a bit of a chance of making some money and so corruption will always be prevalent.
And before people get on their high horses saying how wrong I am, jsut ask the average person in the bookies what they think.
I know not everyone is at it and some will defend McKeown and Blockley but lets get real. It goes on, always has done and always will fo.
I have moved to football. Shorter odds but more consistency overall.

In the topsy-turvy world of BHA values, it isn’t the fact that ‘it goes on’ is considered corrupt – only telling someone about it.
May 2, 2008 at 10:54 #1610632 things that spring to mind, why so long after they were interviewed about the allegations? And why did they not go down this route with Fallon and co instead of going to the police?

3. Former racehorse owners David Wright and Marcus Reeder have previously been warned off for laying their own horses:
May 2, 2008 at 13:27 #161093The following are the Timeform Perspective entries on some of the McKeown races:
16.6.04 Southwell Only If I Laugh * Dean McKeown
, on his first start since leaving Brian Meehan, was heavily restrained leaving the stalls and (to a lesser degree) on the home turn, and the winner was well away by the time he was switched into the clear, though he lost second after coming under pressure, and hadn’t been in much form of late, anyway; the stewards inquired into his running, and noted the explanations of his trainer and jockey.8.2.05 Lingfield Smith N Allan Oils Dean McKeown
caught the eye on his first start for Paul Blockley, after he was claimed from Michael Dods at Wolverhampton ($6,000), travelling comfortably as he was kept wide and running on steadily under little more than a hand ride; a winner 3 times over 7f/1m here last winter, his previous effort suggests he’s pretty much as good as ever, and as such he’s potentially well handicapped.19.4.05 Southwell Hits Only Cash* Dean McKeown
shaped as if he’ll be all the sharper with this first start since November behind him, just pushed out as he made late headway; not sure to stay beyond 7f, he acts on polytrack and heavy going.19.12.05 W’hampton Hits Only Money** Dean McKeown
has presumably had problems, this just his second start of the year and first since April, though his mark’s dropped a long way and he shaped better than the result suggests, racing freely early on and not at all knocked about; the stewards inquired into his running but decided to take no further action.May 2, 2008 at 13:38 #161097The Only If I Laugh race was particularly memorable.
May 2, 2008 at 13:39 #161098THE JOCKEY CLUB yesterday bravely declared that the war on corruption in racing in Britain had reached “a turning point” as it revealed that it is now 11 months since a race sparked a serious investigation…..The Jockey Club has gone public with its private view, with John Maxse, the Jockey Club’s public relations director, telling the Racing Post yesterday: “I would be very happy for you to quote me as saying there has been a turning point. If anything, it was actually last spring.
The above is an excerpt of a news item that appeared in Racing Post in January 2005, bang in the middle of the period that has now been specified as having been under investigation.
May 2, 2008 at 15:52 #161132Hmmm. If – as is usually the case – Mr Maxse is being tanked around Hackwood Park by Gielgud this coming Monday, would you like me to ask him what he thinks about that statement now, Pruf?
