The New Beginnings Horses organisation for the re-training of horses have reported that popular performer Mister McGoldrick has passed away at the ripe old age of 27. A message on the New Beginnings Facebook page stated:
‘It is with great sadness that we announce that yesterday Mister McGoldrick aka Mac passed away at the grand age of 27 years.
Admired and remembered for his 66/1 win at Cheltenham in 2008 he was a warrior of a racehorse with the heart of a lion and an absolute gentleman of a horse who was loved by everyone who has the pleasure of knowing him. He came to New Beginnings in 2012 and alongside Harry (Golden Hello) and Meg as Ambassador horses, they flew the flag for all former racehorses touching the hearts of many who met them on a Yorkshire racecourse. Everything he was ever asked to do, from parading to dressage, schoolmaster, photo shoots, leading a funeral cortège, even an advert in the centre of Liverpool, he did so generously and willingly. He was the perfect example of the versatility of a former racehorse. We are all extremely sad and will miss him every day but we’re honoured to have had him in our care and our lives for so long. RIP Mac, run free again with Harry.’July 24, 2024 at 19:21 #1702593What a legend he was. Glad he had a long and enjoyable retirement. R.I.P. thanks for the memories.
July 24, 2024 at 20:48 #1702597Sad news, but what a decent and consistent performer he was. Ran quite a few times at Cheltenham (and other premium tracks like Aintree, Wetherby, Sandown) and always gave his best.
Can’t believe his win in 2008 is already 16 years ago. Glad he had a great retirement and lived to that age.Rest in peace Mister McGoldrick
July 24, 2024 at 23:42 #1702601I met him a couple of times when New Beginnings took him to Wetherby. What a wonderful, active retirement they gave him. RIP

RIP Mister McGoldrick
