Brilliant quizzer Pat Gibson rarely gets anything wrong on any subject from rocket science to dreadful, vacuous modern chart music. However the great Egghead was left floundering when asked to name the show jumper whose sons Dan and Harry have made successful careers in national hunt racing. David Broome was offered in desperation.
February 24, 2019 at 07:55 #1398984So what if racing is a minority interest? As long as the sport brings in enough money to keep the government happy, it will continue to exist.
February 24, 2019 at 08:35 #1398986Adding to Pat’s embarrassment will be the fact that he used to work for the Tote as a software developer. You can imagine what price the IT team was in the annual quiz.
February 24, 2019 at 10:05 #1398990saw a re-run of The Sweeney the other day which included a rails bookie saying to Regan that X “is here more often than Lord Wigg”.
does the present Chair of the Levy Board have such general recognition ?
March 1, 2019 at 19:17 #1399422In fairness to Pat, show jumping is very much a minority interest so the wording of the question may well have thrown him. Besides, it’s not as though the Skeltons should be household names. Put into context, I’d imagine that most people, quizmasters and mortals alike, would struggle to name any more than a handful of current Premiership footballers outside of the big six clubs. Yet nobody could accuse football of being a minority interest.
March 1, 2019 at 21:38 #1399438I doubt if any question on the Premiership or most of the lower leagues would floor Pat Gibson
