I wondered if anybody had heard any updates about this Peter Bowen trained horse since his gallant second in last years Grand National as I had heard that he injured himself in the process?

    Not heard anything lately.

Was a tendon injury if i remember correctly, which was actually sustained during the final moments of the Grand National in 2007.

If it was a tendon injury then the horse will probably be off the race track for a while to say the least.

Which make his National odds of 25/1 not too generous? Shame as I backed him last year and would have been interseted in him this year :?

This could be the onset of insanity talking but I’m sure I recall being surprised to read that he was back in training for this season, as I was under the impression that he was retired due to the extent of the injury sustained at Aintree.

As far as I know he’s on course for another crack at the National.

But as I said, I could be going a bit daft.

    As zoz suggested:

GRAND NATIONAL runner-up McKelvey, now recovered from the injury that Peter Bowen blames for his defeat by Silver Birch in April, is set to go back to Aintree next spring without another run over fences.
His trainer is to take the modern approach to National preparation, pioneered in Ireland, and said yesterday: "He won’t run over fences before the National as I want to preserve his handicap mark, so he will have a couple of runs over hurdles."
McKelvey finished lame when failing by only three-quarters of a length to catch the winner at Aintree, having made up six lengths on the run-in, and Bowen said: "He did a suspensory, but he has had a lot of work and he will be back this season. He is back in now, and everything is going fine."

Thanks for all your comments. I am glad to hear that he is okay. It will be interesting to see how he gets on if he makes the race this year without a prep run.

I haven’t heard any updates, but I reckon if he runs in the National, he’ll win it.
