One incident was clearly and without dispute the fault of the rider. Ruby could do no more than raise his hand in self disgust. The other incident was clearly a case of an animal out of sorts. A.P is a genius not a magician. He doesn’t have to be blamed by anyone for the Denman reesult. But he will be by those who clearly suffer from tall poppy syndrome around here.
I still see no list of horses to have improved subsequent to McCoy partnering them. The detractors aren’t really trying very hard. But then again they know they’re on a hiding to nothing when it comes to facts over feeble emotions. The result of the biggest race in the country on the weekend must have really pissed a few of you off. Fancy McCoy bouncing back so quickly! Has the egg dried on your faces yet ladies?
I don’t know how much Walsh or McCoy were to blame. Perhaps Ruby said what he did to deflect the expected criticism away from AP. After all with the race already won he had asked Master Minded at the previous fences and he had produced so why not do the same at the last? He was clearly very lucky to stay on. As for Denman I thought he looked in trouble before the mistake. Only AP will know whether he panicked and was unsure whether to go long or short and effectively did nothing.
Are you being serious about the Totesport? The horse is virtually winning on bridle and he nearly gets him on the floor at the last. Fortunately, the horse had an absolute ton in hand to get AP out of what could have been a complete disaster.
As for finding a list of horses don’t you realise by now it isn’t a case of finding them people just can’t be bothered. It is the same as me asking you to list AP’s Saturday winners over the last year or a list of horses he has guided to a mistake free round. If you want to live in past and follow AP over a cliff that is up to you.

You obviously haven’t watched the entire race run by the winner of the Totesport. If you did you’d see how much help the virtual novice hurdler required along the way. McCoy is continually seen to pick the horses head up to keep him balanced throughout the race. Everything you say is full of ifs and buts designed to make McCoy look bad. Not even begrudging credit comes from you when it comes to McCoy. Factual ignorance is bliss. Simply poor form mate nothing less. Your comments reek of punter sour grapes. I’ll leave you to it while I enjoy the view from the cliff’s edge.
You will not make a list because you cannot. End of story.
February 17, 2010 at 12:24 #277331Firstly, sorry if this has been said before, but I haven’t read every post on this thread – just the last few.
My view on this is that it’s the jockey who is responsible for "direction & pace" – i.e. they must present the horse at the fence in the place that will give it the greatest chance of making it safely to the other side. Then it’s up to the horse to actually jump the fence. Just about the worst thing you can do is go for a long "no hoper" stride and fling yourself forward at the same time as then it makes it even more difficult for the now unbalanced horse to get it’s front end off the ground, or pop in a short last stride. Most riders will usually admit when it’s their fault – as Ruby did after he clearly "missed" at the last on MM. Everyone misses occasionally and I suspect most people would have more respect for someone who admits their error – or gives the horse the benefit of the doubt. It’s the few who seem so arrogant that they can’t admit that they’ve made a mistake and always blame the horse that I find irritating. It’s interesting to watch the horses who carry on jumping without a rider – you don’t often see them "miss".March 8, 2010 at 16:17 #281178Agree with people saying Sam Thomas should still be on Denman.
But AP IS still the man. End of.
