Anyone can have politics at any festival GSP, as long as it doesn’t – or is no danger of – getting out of hand. Not aware of it ever getting out of hand at Glasto’.

I’m centre-right but it’s a free country. Got no objection to any left wing political stage or whatever.
Let’s face it, if there weren’t people there interested in one there wouldn’t be one.

…And Richard; if not wanting a thread with political posts, just ignore any throw away comments and then you’ll find politics is rarely mentioned.

That said, seems as though it’s ok to mention politics in any thread if you’re left of centre, just not if you’re the other side of centre. :rose:

    Missed this concert.
Am not a great fan of the Beatles tbh – you wouldn’t expect me to be with my real name – they did some good stuff but no more so than many other 60’s groups.

Hope Sir Paul was better than Diana Ross the other night. That voice went straight through me! Didn’t sound like singing at all, just tone deaf stuff you’d hear at karaoke.

Glasto’ has well and truly sold out now.
Get rid of this popularist crap and bring back the indie bands on centre stage!

Oh and in my best Life Of Brian voice…
    It is not Glastonbury,
    Glastonbury is miles away.
    It’s the Pilton Festival.
Nearer to both Shepton Mallet and Wells than Glastonbury.

    Bah Humbug.

    Ffs. Ginger. That first para

    Err. Like who exactly lol

Like the group that (random) recorded tracks as varied and yet iconic with the extraordinary range as the following

    She loves you
    Norwegian wood
    Day In a life
    She’s leaving home
    Something

You don’t have to be a fan but….

Freddie and the dreamers? Dave Clark five ?

Some will say it’s only taste but if someone claimed that Satie (limited but a wonderful piece it two) was the equivalent of Mozart …

Agree with you about the politics though ging. What would have been made of Woodstock? “Bloody peace and love”

Mates reminded me we all went for a quick drink with chris Lowe and I don’t remember a bloody thing about it

To me Clive The Kinks are better than The Beatles.

    God no way

    Is it?

Might be for you, each to his own and all that.

imo The Beatles only did half a dozen really good songs themselves, if that.
Admittedly I have a different taste to most people in that I am much more indie.
Stuff like Hey Jude does nothing for me I’m afraid.
As for the song that was number 1 when I was born. Have no desire to live in a yellow submarine or hear others singing about it.
You can’t expect anyone with the name Mark Chapman to think The Beatles are so good.
    Sorry :rose:

As previously stated, I am not really into music, I’ve never been to a music Festival, never will, and have never watched more than about a minute of one on TV.

But my remote impression was things like Glastonbury used to be about indie and alternative music and new material that was emerging.

Paul McCartney, Diana Ross, The Pet Shop Boys?

Racing no longer targets anyone over 40 and music festivals no longer target anyone under 40?

Is the “silver pound,” “the grey-haired dollar” simply migrating from the race track to the music festival?

    It’s a topsy turvy 2022!

PS: Arguing about whose music is better is like arguing over which food is better – utterly pointless, as it’s purely down to personal taste.

    A very unusual view ging

Half a dozen good Beatles songs?

    Blimey

I understand some not going for The Beach Boys (although I love them) and t(e kinks because they had a pretty singular sound but the Beatles range was so massive (far far more than any other group) that its hard to comprehend

There are literally hundreds of acts on over the three days covering all age ranges. McCartney wasn’t even the oldest, Herbie Hancock is 82. There were plenty in their teens and 20s and everything in between.

I saw people of all ages enjoying Macca and PSB too.

Exactly because they are timeless. I love herbie too and saw him at the barbican a few years back

Fact is that 60s through to the end of the 80s was the golden age of pop music

They claim that 1971 was the peak and looking through what materialized that year is mind boggling whatever anyones taste. Compare with 2021….

Who has really broken through in recent years ? Adele with that stunning Ballad and for me Amy certainly did. But its pretty thin isn’t it?

    https://www.theguardian.com/books/2016/may/12/1971-never-a-dull-moment-rocks-golden-year-david-hepworth-review

It’s the only genre which has obsessed about age rather than talent. No one goes to a classical concert and says “Beethoven? He’s ancient!”

And no reason why artists can’t be creative into late age. Bowie was and his latter stuff is sublime (I’m a middling fan of his). Miles Davis was at his creative peak very late in life

Highlight of psb Richard? Bloody hard but that burst into the funked up left to my own devices was … no words. None

    Like Chezza says.
You’re giving what can only be your opinion about songs, Clive.
Like my choice of what’s good and bad is only my opinion.

That said, my ears can still hear well enough
Have just heard a bit of Paul McCartney’s gig.
Give him some credit, a lot better than Diana Ross’s tone deaf rubbish the other day.
However, although Paul’s voice was great for an 80 year old, obviously it was nowhere near what it was in the 60s 70’s and 80s. Therefore the fact is Paul McCartney wasn’t even as good as… well “Paul McCartney”.

I don’t want to hear singers of my favourite groups either; John Lydon, if he was alive Ian Curtis or Biggie Tembo either.
    Leave them in the past.

    Yes it’s an opinion

As is an opinion that Victoria Beckham is a greater literary giant than Shakespeare

Or the finest writer of erotica was enid blyton.

And lieutenant pidgeon wrote great ballads
