Sorry to be so blunt but the Aintree form when Mighty Man won stunk to the high heavens and Inglis Drever was obviousy way over the top. Lots of horses trained to the minute to win at Cheltenham do the same thing………hit their peak run brilliantly at Cheltenham and then get suprisingly beaten at Aintree……Pridwell beat Istabraq….hardly reliable form…….it’s not like the turnaround was a couple of lengths it was over 20 lengths…what do you mean by more favourable conditions? Might Man was every but as good on good to soft as he was on good he won on it several times and that year at Cheltenham there wasn’t a great deal of cut in the ground anyway. Perhaps you mean the sharper track but as it has got less to do with staying than any other track in the country bar Kempton it’s hardly relevant.
hi FoF, I’ll try to keep my thoeries concise and clear as i can but i’m half pissed drowning my sorrows as England are currently 14-3 against the kiwis.
i’m of the opinion (as are plenty of people) that the stayer’s hurdle as we know it run on the new course (not this year) is closer to 2m 6.5f than 3m. the measured distance is totally wrong. what does this matter, well not much except that Aintrees 3m 0.5f is a much sterner test of stamina. a crude way to compare is to use racingpost standard times for both of their staying championships, this highlights it takes 4 seconds longer to travel each mile at aintree, which you would surely think is ridiculous with cheltenhams undulations.
Anyway, if you’re still awake, my point is that the extra stamina combined with a flat track suited mighty man better than inglis drever at that relative times in their careers. hence mighty man put up a better performance ratings wise than inglis drever ever has IMO.
Taking that into account doesn’t mean that i can be sure inglis drever isn’t capable of putting in a better performance, it’s just that because of his syle of running so far i’m sure he hasn’t.

Roland
Aintree has never been a stamina test.
The difference between the times is because horses, like humans, go slower round bends, which are endless on Aintree’s 3m hurdle course.March 24, 2008 at 14:43 #153551Only Golden Miller has won more than 3 times in the top class at the Festival in 70 years.
Persian War?. The Triumph’s top class, innit ?
March 24, 2008 at 15:47 #153560Istabraq……sun alliance and 3 ch hurdles
I presume Fist means at none novice ready though
March 24, 2008 at 17:41 #153567Exactly bro’s I aam talking Gold Cups Champion Hurdles, QMCC’s and World Hurdles.
Persian War and Istabraq? probably would have just about won the CH had they not run in novice events…………..incidentally pound for pound they were probaly both better than Inglis Drever but that doesn’t alter the fact ID was and is a Great Champion and should be celebrated as such………….Ginge……go back to sums Horses aint your Forte mate
