Nikoline by Martaline and Nikochely (Nikos) wins le prix Bournosienne Gr. III at Auteuil
We hope the four young Martaline we have at the stud farm will be as good as she is !!!

Good luck with your Martaline. Think that Nikoline was rather lucky in the Bournosienne in that Sway was cantering when coming down two out and Bel La Vie was doing likewise in the Cambaceres when she fell at the last. Would say at best she’d be the third best 3yo filly in France.

Good Luck though and you Martaline does well for you :)

Can’t help noticing the hat that Nikoline is wearing whilst racing.

I’ve seen pictures of them before, when horses are travelling, presumably in case they bang into the walls during transit, but I’ve never noticed one on the racecourse before.

Are they becoming compulsory on the continent, in the same way that professional cyclists have been forced by the Government to wear helmets?

I see Martaline is a full brother to the top class stayer (Cadran winner) Reefscape, and a half brother to another in Coastal Path.

They aren’t compulsory Gerald and tbh I’m not sure exactly what they bring to the party so to speak.

Martaline has the potential to be a topclass sire of jumpers Ven – I guess it doesn’t bode too well that his brother Reefscape’s jumping career has yielded just the one win at Lyon Parilly from four starts.

That will be of no consequence, jumping ability isn’t heritable.

The Holstiener verband, the KPWN and Selle Francais studbooks must have missed that memo.

You are confusing physical type with jumping ability.

No – it’s down to physical size and schooling which is probably one of the reasons he and other good flat horses (most notably Walk In The Park and Quest For Honor) aren’t all that good at the jumping side of the game as opposed to the speed between the hurdles part.

I’m no expert on conformation and he’s still growing but he’s well bred and looks good

Will be sure to keep an eye on him – if you have any offspring of Discover D’Auteuil or Sholokhov who are both doing really well I’d be interested in seeing them (the latter had 2 of the first three home in the Congress over the weekend).

Head looks a bit too big for me, can’t see the loins from that picture but point of hip is showing up well, the back is raising nicely to the croup.

Good little horse for 6 months, well done hope he does you proud.

You must be mistaken he is 1 month old on the Photo, now he is 6 month old.
