April 3, 2008 at 20:07 #155599Lydia told me she no longer works for the bbc. She left June 2006 as she didnt agree with there future plans, she had her own ideas and they were different to what the BBC had in mind.

He is a regular when not working.
Sometimes comes to Thu/Fri then elsewhere on the big day.
I’ve known C4 send a camera crew to Aintree on the saturday with Jimbo and (sometimes) Mac filing reports from there for ML.April 3, 2008 at 20:30 #155607Who was this new non-entity they had today doing the "light hearted" pieces. Lydia would be much better than him!
Dan Walker, I believe, was the new boy.
I’ve heard him on local radio and I think that he’s also worked for Sky Sports News.
Pretty sure he’s not a racing insider (is that a good or bad thing) more of an up and coming hack. He doesn’t look anything special at the moment but it’s early days yet.
To me anything’s an improvement on Rishi whose lines of questioning makes Tommo look like Paxman
April 3, 2008 at 20:30 #155608Mac will be at Aintree with Jim McGrath and Alastair Down on the ML.
Tom Lee will be doing his slot in the afternoon show from Lingfield and Newcastle.
As regards Lydia it is a shame she left but maybe the BBC dont want serious presenters as dumbing down is what they want to do but i think they should have had her to do Question Time as she would have been a great host of that

And going bald it would appear Oh the strain of working for the BeebApril 3, 2008 at 21:15 #155625The lack of quality in the BBC team is stark, Parrott was woeful and not a mention of Betfair, not that Statto was much better. The usual inane questions from Persad and McGraths commentaries leave a lot to be desired.
Not surprised Lydia left, working with that bunch could damage your reputation
April 4, 2008 at 10:36 #155760Have they given Scu the boot!?
April 4, 2008 at 10:44 #155762McGraths commentaries leave a lot to be desired.
I don’t dislike the guy, but he’s in decline as a commentator these days. Yesterday any horse that brushed a fence or hurdle with the equine equivalent of a fingernail was greeted with "Oooh, he rapped that one hard!"

Hopefully !
How he has managed to get away with his stuttering race analyses all this time is beyond me.
As for Rishi Persad, the Cheshire Cat !
Does he never stop grinning (it looks wrong) when he asks one of his banal questions. There is also an air of over familiarity ( ala D. Thompson) when questioning trainers and jockeys.
In short, Lydia, come back !

In short, Lydia, come back !

I’d certainly welcome you with open arms
April 4, 2008 at 20:55 #155922Why is John Parrott involved again? Is it because he likes a bet or because he’s a loveable scouser and the BBC have spotted the Liverpool connection?
I didn’t like it when they first did it with him and I like it less now. As the BBC has lost every other sport of note isn’t it time they gave the National to Channel 4….imagine what a job Alastair Down would do of it.
April 4, 2008 at 21:33 #155944I don’t think Ms Balding likes Lydia.
April 4, 2008 at 21:40 #155946I think the BBC are far more professional on the whole than Channel 4, not to mention those dratted adverts interrupting the flow. Cheltenham coverage was much better when the BBC had it as well & I wish they could get it back as they have done Formula 1 for next season.
April 4, 2008 at 21:45 #155950I have enjoyed the inputs and interviews of NW,RD and TMcC on the BBC coverage. Been good stuff all round.
April 4, 2008 at 21:56 #155957When will they stop giving coverage to the fashion rubbish. This isn’t Royal Ascot – it’s Aintree in early April.
And when did Aintree decide to have a ‘Ladies’ Day? Far too many munters walking round drunk, not knowing a horse from a billy goat. Can’t we leave that for the summer and the Flat festivals. I know lots of people who don’t go anymore because most of the crowd wouldn’t be that bothered if the horses running were selling platers.April 4, 2008 at 21:58 #155959I don’t think Ms Balding picked up Andy Stewart’s comments regarding Liverpool ‘ladies’ in quite the way he meant it ..
