I was saddened to see Lush Lashes dismissed as the only casualty of the week, as if the poor horse didn’t matter.

Not
Lush Lashes
but
LUSH LIFE
– in case anyone thought it was the great, Irish mare you were referencing. Still a sadness, though.
March 21, 2011 at 18:37 #346583I saw that Charlie Brooks had referred to Lush Life as Lush Lashes in his column in the Telegraph.
March 21, 2011 at 19:07 #346589I’d noticed, didn’t make it any less sad, alas. Still dead.
March 22, 2011 at 10:45 #346698A sad loss indeed. A young and talented horse who I remember watching out battle Menorah at Ascot last year. It’s always sad to lose any of these magnificent animals who are so tough and genuine. RIP
March 22, 2011 at 15:57 #346755I am always somewhat amused when people add RIP in reference to animals. Do they have any other option except to RIP(the bones) or is the concept illusionary when referring to animals? Do the souls of horses live after them or are they interred with their bones?

I added it out of respect cos we’re all animals, imo, if we’re capable of voluntary action but, anyway, I’m so glad I gave you such amusement.
March 22, 2011 at 17:07 #346766..I feel that the souls of horses do live after them [which is no doubt amusing]…why else would I feel such a sense of awe when I go to Cheltenham each March? Doesn’t greatness transcend mortality, which is what all writers, poets and artists try to achieve during their lifetime. There’s a sadness about the demise of Lush Life; being the only fatality means that the fickle finger of fate was pointing at him and him only. He’s probably looking down on us now saying ‘why me?’.
