won what was probably a very mediocre maiden in desperate ground at Thurles. The next week the trumpets were blasted, best horse I’ve ever trained, a real Triumph Hurdle contender…what PR :) and woe and behold he’s sold for an undisclosed sum. most likely showed his true colours yesterday, will win races, just not the likes of the Triumph.

That’s a bit harsh. The horse finished distressed yesterday so it clearly wasn’t his true running.

Pat Flynn is no mug and he knows a good horse. He’s trained a Champion Bumper winner and two winners of the Supreme Novices Hurdle after all.

He’s no fool is Pat, but I agree wholeheartedly with the OP. He never got home on the Flat despite always travelling well, and I’d be gobsmacked if he amounted to anything better than average over hurdles.

didn’t mean to sound harsh….can’t blame them, just see it quite often.

My understanding is that it was Casey rather than Pat Flynn that recommended the horse to JP/Frank Berry.

I was astonished they bought him, after his win at Thurles there was a lot of soundings of how good this horse is etc. I hadn’t seen the Thurles race myself until Friday, and to my mind it was nothing out of the ordinary, I actually thought it was an extremely weak race.

If I were JP, I would be breaking the bank to buy Oscars Well, who looks a magnificent prospect.

If he had managed to win one of his three bumpers I’m sure JP might already have him! O’Leary is going to clean up over here for the forseeable future.

Very true IC. He looks like a really good horse, I think he is future Champion Hurdle material.
