He has looked as though he was falling out of love with the game in his last few runs and it is no surprised he has been retired – may he have a long retirement.
Horses like him have no future under the new whip rules. A superb horse, he gave a lot to the sport. His victory at Fontwell unforgettable. Long and happy retirement Lough Derg, well deserved.
Sad to see the old boy go, but definitely the correct decision – its two and a half years since he last won, and I think that he had had enough.
Lets hope that he has a long, happy and healthy retirement – he deserves it.
I wonder if they’ll still put him in the horsebox on Saturdays so’s he can still pretend to be going racing. Can’t imagine him without his red blinkers; like a state of undress.
If memory serves me right Moe , many moons ago Fred Winter had an old stalwart in Sonny Somers who just didnt want to retire and he used to get loaded in the box to humour him that he was going racing
One of those horses who always added an extra element, a real star. Pleased they made the decision, wouldn’t want to see him tailed off like that again.
Great to see this horse retired fit and well. May he enjoy his retirement. Just thinking of the races when he looked beat halfway through and then in the last furlong seeing him edging closer and hearing the commentator and the crowd cheering him on still gives me goose pimples.
I’ll add my good wishes too. One of those horses that makes jump racing what it is. I’m so pleased he’s been retired in good health. He owes us nothing.
