Im no expert, but since Lough Derg won at Fontwell beating MyWayDeSolzen from a long way back he just has’nt recovered from that superb victory, i understand the prize for the oom is not to be sniffed at and other horses have raced more but L Derg looks and races like a tired horse to me.
Charles Darwin to conquer the World
April 19, 2008 at 22:55 #158826Can i shove my view in on this please.
On one hand it is good to see connections having a go at winning the order of merit.
But it was a shame to see Lough Derg struggling at the back and although 2m is not his trip maybe he now deserves to have a wee bit of a holiday with his hooves up.
April 20, 2008 at 10:45 #158865I didn’t have a problem with the aggressive campaigning of Lough Derg at first, as he appeared to still be running his races. The Aintree hurdle looked to be the first sign of trouble, but yesterday he really did look like he’d had enough. And given the fact he was put out the back over 2m when he normally leads them round over a mile further suggests to me that connections know that he’s got nothing more to give this term.
A couple of people have also placed the blame at the trainer’s door. I’m not going to be cynical and outwardly question the motives of that, but what about the possibility that this campaigning is predominantly owner-driven? You saw at Fontwell how much Tom Scu thinks of the horse, and looking at his last three runs he’s not been run as prominetly (allowed to chase two less stamina-laden stablemates at Aintree, held up at Ayr) perhaps trainer & jockey are going along with the owners paper-chasing whilst amongst themselves agreeing to give LD easier races? If he happens to stay on past enough beaten horses to get the requisite points it’s a bonus.
April 21, 2008 at 10:41 #159043I thought the way he stayed on showed that he isn’t overly tired, just that he didn’t have the pace to go with them on that ground. As others have said horses like Pigeon Island and Orpen Wide have run loads of times and nobody seems to object. And didn’t my namesake Stan have 3 runs in the last 3 weeks? The only race of the last 3 you could say Lough Derg really struggled in was the Aintree Hurdle, where he couldn’t get an easy lead and dropped away tamely.

I would very much prefer it if you showed other forum members a bit of respect. The smileys don’t take the edge off your comments.
I never saw this post until now. Thank you for the public scalding Cormack.
Personally I don’t take kindly to a poster I don’t know begining a post with the educated sentence RUBBISH!!!!!
However you seem to think that’s ok. If you are referring to my dispute with LGR please read all my posts and show me where I said anything he didn’t instigate. I have never started one argument on here since the day I joined.
You brought this public and you are the one with the power to ban me.
Up to you but perhaps other mebers might ask why? Go read Beckies post another attack for saying I thought a horse was over rated????????????????????????????? pure insults one after the other.
If you are going to have a rule for me and people like me then you should have the same as others………..go ahead and ban me I honestly don’t care……..I would have but you pulling me up in front of everyone instead of doing it privately stinks.
