I’ve just had a lump on Reading to be relegated from the Premiership (6/1 Ladbrokes)
I’m a season ticket holder, so feel a little guilty, but here’s why I’ve punted them:
– the last 2 performances have been dire
– West ham could have won 6-0 instead of 3
– seem to missing Sidwell more than I thought they would
– desperately need Sonko back fit
– if no Sonko, need to strengthen the back 4, but cannot until after Xmas
– a bit of insurance for me??6/1 is a big price & could look massive after tomorrows game v Sunderland
September 14, 2007 at 19:27 #114992You obviously know more about Reading than I do but I have been quite impressed with their attitude and style since they joined the Premiership. They seem to be missing Sidwell a lot which some people predicted they would but I think it’s a bit early to be writing them off after 5 games which included playing Man Utd and Chelsea + Everton who are no mugs.
I suppose the loss against Bolton was a bit worrying but West Ham will probably do ok this season. Derby look sure to go down and I think Birmingham will join them so there is only one more place which may belong to Bolton, Fulham, Sunderland or Wigan in my opinion.
I reckon Reading are just going through a temporary bad patch and I think Steve Coppell will get things right.
Bit confused why you say it’s a bit of insurance for you……do you mean that it will pay for the next season ticket if they are relegated.
Good luck anyway.
September 14, 2007 at 20:24 #1150112nd Season Syndrome I think it’s called.
I agree they do look a bit weak at the moment, but there are some weaker teams in the division in my opinion. Derby are certanties to be relegated, while Birmingham, Bolton, Fulham and Sunderland could fight to avoid filling the other 2 slots.

September 14, 2007 at 21:10 #115028It’s insurance about them going down… with 17 more home games to watch, I’d much rather see them win them all & stay up, but, if they do get relegated at least I earn a few quid!
I thought they’d do okay before the season started and even more so after the Chelski & Man Utd games, but the West Ham game was shocking. They had no heart or passion which is something I’ve never seen before at the Madjeski & this is what Coppell said which hardly inspires confidence:
"Letting in six goals in two games is a concern and something we hadn’t expected.
I don’t know which way to take it at the moment. Can we get back on track? I don’t knowâ€September 16, 2007 at 14:31 #115248A 2-1 defeat at Sunderland and by all the accounts I’ve read, another very disappointing display from the Royals
Best price now 4/1 for the drop
September 16, 2007 at 19:50 #115269think they were around 6/1 or 7/1 pre season
October 4, 2007 at 19:03 #117970After a last minute winner against Wigan and the 7-4 Pompey debacle, we entertain Derby on Saturday
Again the bookies are overrating the Royals and odds on quotes are a joke. I won’t be getting involved myself, but laying @ 4/5 could be worth a punt
October 7, 2007 at 20:57 #118393Reading win a very poor game 1-0. They deserved the 3 points as were the better team (just) but my god, Derby were shocking
October 8, 2007 at 15:42 #118525The Royals are 3/1 to go down with Ladbrookes, had to do a mystery shopper visit on them and ask what odds on relegation from premiership – they didn’t do overly well as the woman couldn’t find it on their system?
October 8, 2007 at 19:26 #118573I don’t know why she couldn’t find the price…… maybe Ladbrokes "know"
Am still convinced they’ll struggle & the 11/2 with VC (was 6’s last night)and Hills is far too big
May 3, 2008 at 09:57 #161291Massive match today for the Royals
If we lose to Spurs think it’s game over and having not scored for 5 games am not confident
BTW – I will never, never, ever bet against my team again as it’s made the last 4/5 months uncomfortable, emotionally confusing and my poor brain/heart hasn’t coped well with it
Another BTW – 5/2 to be relegated is still a big price
May 3, 2008 at 11:19 #161317I backed Reading each way without the big 4 last season. Would have collected if they had taken a point off Watford. I think that’s when the rot set in with the manager constantly playing down Europe. They will be lucky to escape and if they do go down the manager should take a large slice of the responsibility. The defence has shipped all season and he has down nothing to strengthen it. Without any stars to win games on their own the team has to play well as a collective unit and that just hasn’t happened often enough.
May 4, 2008 at 09:17 #161469Wouldn’t disagree with anything you say stilvi & Coppell just doesn’t seem to have any answers.
We could have been 3 or 4 down by half time yesterday and reckon we’ll struggle at Derby next week
It is looking grim….
May 4, 2008 at 12:31 #161508I think Reading can stay up.
Is that a foolish thing to say ?

May 4, 2008 at 17:09 #161572Portsmouth are worse than abismal at present so three points for Fulham would be no surprise. Birmingham might scrape a point against Blackburn and as you say Reading will probably struggle to beat Derby.
May 11, 2008 at 08:54 #162690D-DAY
Out of the clubs involved i hope Reading stay up, just so i can have a wager on them going down next season
. Sidwell should of stayed he’s been wasted at Chelsea hardly played a game, for a player in his prime it’s dissapointing.Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
May 11, 2008 at 09:27 #162707Agree on Sidwell and think his loss has probably cost us 5/6 points, but…. £50k a week & a chance at the big time make his decision understandable
Dreading this afternoon & think I’ll spend it in the garden with a beer of 2 listening to Radio Berkshire – Come on you Urzzz
