Silver Rime nearly came good for Linda Perratt John Smith’s Handicap (div 2) at Ayr yesterday.
This 4-y-o grey colt looks as if he will be in the winner’s enclosure at least once before the end of the season.
It would have been good to have seen Linda unsaddle a winner at the Western Meeting after all the problems she has had in the past few years.

Maybe a bit out of his depth here or could he be value place only on the Tote?
Hmmmmmmmmmm
September 20, 2009 at 17:23 #249460I thought Silver Rime typified Tommy Docherty’s infamous maxim that when one door shuts, another slams in your face, Tom.
Linda had set this one up a treat to win at her favourite racecourse and was extremely unlucky not to win. Silver Rime goes down in my book as one of the most unfortunate losers of the season. Initially, I felt the slightly overrated Makin was at fault for going down the inside in the final hundred yards, but after a couple of hours thinking about it, I came to the conclusion that it was just one of those things – when you’re rock bottom, bad luck is your constant companion and the Perratt team had to settle for the place funded sherberts, rather then the win funded champagne.
Linda is a good trainer – Semple has hardly pulled up any trees since she was fired has he? – and luck, like a season, always turns eventually.
