Peter Casey – "Maybe it would have been better if he had gone off in front."
December 30, 2012 at 16:51 #424804Well, as he was only collared close him by a brilliant ride and was still beaten less than a length the tactics can’t have been that far out, if only they had been executed better.
He will running over 3 miles next time Gingertipster

Aallowed a soft lead in front…
In a race run at a slowish pace…
On ground less testing of stamina…If Flemenstar gets his own way running at 3 miles Eddie, then he may well win a race – his natural ability may even allow him to win a Grade 1 at the trip. But come Cheltenham in the Gold Cup… Rivals won’t allow him to set a slow pace and are bound to take him on and (unless connections can settle him FAR better) he’ll probably pull his chance away.
Whatever, it’s unlikely Flemenstar’s natural enthusiasm will allow him to be as good at 3 miles+ as he is at 2m4f and shorter.
I seem to remember a similar conversation I had about Frankel going up to 1m4f (the Derby) after the Guineas.
Value Is EverythingDecember 30, 2012 at 21:26 #424833Yes he has got to learn to settle to have any chance at the GC, if not this year maybe next as they do learn to settle better with age and experince so maybe GC next year?
Very much looking forward to h tackling the hennessy and you think he’d get better ground, im still on the giving him another shout before saying he got no shout at the GC this year but either which way he goes at cheltenham it will be fascinating to see.
December 30, 2012 at 21:33 #424834The only thing I’d add about Flemenstar staying at Chelters is that there were the same questions bandied around the legend that Is Kauto before he won his 1st Gold Cup.
However, Flemenstar is surely more One Man than Kauto….or is he??!

December 31, 2012 at 13:57 #424889Although there was a question whether Kauto Star would stay the Gold Cup trip or 3m in the Betfair… He never pulled at shorter distances like Flemenstar.
Value Is EverythingDecember 31, 2012 at 20:34 #424918Fotget the Gold Cup, this is a Lexus thread is it not? I think Walsh would have won on Flemenstar.
Ginger – if Flemenstar and Tidal Bay met in a match over the Lexus C&D, whom would you back if they were both 1/1?

I don’t think he got the chance really, he either proved not good enough, fell, or beat Ashley Brook 1.5L.

Without doubt PC, I’d have a massive bet on Flemenstar in a match. Tidal Bay is incapable of making his own running and nowadays needs a testing 3 miles to show his best. Without others taking Flemenstar on Lynch can slow it down to such a degree as to test speed rather than stamina. If I was making a book on a match it would be something like 1/10 Flemenstar, 10/1 Tidal Bay.
Value Is EverythingJanuary 2, 2013 at 14:55 #425011Flemenstar is on a streak and got 6-1. Currently disputing second favouritism for the Gold Cup. I guess everything will depend now on Tidal bay.

January 7, 2013 at 22:27 #425638I’ve taken 66s about Katenko for the Gold Cup. I’ve never seen a horse fit the description, ‘a beast’, so perfectly. He looked like a heavy-weight taking on bantams.
Of course, it’s highly speculative on the basis of what he’s done over here, but he did win a big pot in a French Grade 3 by more than 2 lengths. A £60,000 race bar a few hundred.
