Passed away on Sunday from complications from pneumonia.

Will be best remembered as Frank Drebin, from the TV series ‘Police Squad’ and ‘The Naked Gun’ films.

It’s strange that the first thing I did when I heard of his passing was smile – I have to whenever I think of him. Leslie Nielsen dead? Surely you can’t be serious?

He’ll be catching up with Lloyd Bridges, I’m sure.

A family member stated “today at 5:30, with his friends and his wife, Barbaree, by his side, he just fell asleep and passed away.”

What a lovely, peaceful passing for a man that brought happiness to millions.

    RIP, Sir.

For me, Airplane! (in which Nielsen played the idiotic Dr Rumack) is the funniest film ever made:

Rumack: You’d better tell the Captain we’ve got to land as soon as we can. This woman has to be gotten to a hospital.
Elaine Dickinson: A hospital? What is it?
Rumack: It’s a big building with patients, but that’s not important right now.

Rumack: Captain, how soon can you land?
    Captain Oveur: I can’t tell.
Rumack: You can tell me. I’m a doctor.
Captain Oveur: No. I mean I’m just not sure.
Rumack: Well, can’t you take a guess?
Captain Oveur: Well, not for another two hours.
Rumack: You can’t take a guess for another two hours?

    Don’t call me Shirley!

Me and my brother went to see Naked Gun 21/2 the smell of fear and within the first couple of minutes we became hysterical and those around us started laughing at us pair p*ssing ourselves! it was just a funny intro of Leslie in his cop car driving into showers and all, complete nonsense that appeals to me! Mind you Dirty rotten scoundrels is still the funniest film ever! Great comic actor!

That’s interesting APK, because when I was thinking if Airplane! had any competition for favourite comedy all I could think of was Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (a bit of a shame that Michael Caine never did more comedy, can only think of DRS and The Italian Job, excellent in both).

I also corpsed in the cinema at the now-famous "nice beaver" line from the first Naked Gun. I had to leave my seat and wander around the back of the cinema for five minutes!

Nielsen himself was a serious actor for most of his career and rose to fame after his role in the well-regarded sci-fi flick Forbidden Planet (although he played second fiddle to a robot). That was in 1956 and he didn’t stop working until recently.

Frank: That’s the red-light district. I wonder why Savage is hanging around down there?

    Ed: Sex, Frank?

Frank: Uh, no, not right now, Ed.

Dr. Rumack: What was it we had for dinner tonight?

Elaine: Well, we had a choice: steak or fish.

Dr Rumack: Yes, Yes, I remember, I had lasagne.

Dr. Rumack: Can you fly this plane, and land it?

Ted: Surely you can’t be serious.

Dr. Rumack: I am serious……. and don’t call me Shirley.

    He will be greatly missed.

    Regards

    Frank Drebin voice-over:

"…and I had to get back to my car, which I’d left at the docks"

Cut to scene of doctor’s surgery with a car in the middle of it.

They just don’t make ’em like that any more. Most comedy is such clever-clever wank these days.

Too many to mention Mike but i always measure the level of hilarity of a film by how close i feel i get to actually dying of laughter! Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and the Ruprect scene where he has to walk over to the bed and the scene with the fork in the eye had me in pain as did The Ghost Spoofs in Naked Gun! Austin Powers Fat B*stard always has me in stitches as does Fook me and Fook yu! Class humour, you cant beat it! Anyone who thinks that Reeves and Mortimer are funny dont know what funny is they are a pair of chancers!
