I rarely ‘take advantage’ of the Racing Post’s live reporter facility, but there are times when the trainers’ comments they publish make for interesting reading. David Baxter is at Leicester this afternoon and interviewed both Peter Chapple-Hyam and Andy Haynes in the build up to the fillies’ handicap at 3.50.
Chapple-Hyam was represented by Arabian Pearl, stating that ‘she has every chance of making the first three’, whilst Haynes was represented by Poppet’s Lovein, declaring that ‘she’s back on a straight course and Jamie Spencer said last time that he’d be very surprised if she gets beat next time’.
Poppet’s Lovein drifted from 4/1 out to 7/1 in less than 60 seconds prior to the race, with Arabian Pearl being backed in to 4/1 from (at least) 6/1 in the same period. Arabian Pearl duly won and won easily, with Poppet’s Lovein beaten around 11 lengths.
How is it then that the two named trainers could make statements which were in no way supported by the market, a market which quite accurately predicted how each horse would run?

Why not put the question to the BHB and their "Make Racing Straight department"
08000 852 580
The hotline is annynomouse and seemingly set up for this exact reason.
May 31, 2010 at 15:51 #297776thought every trainer , if interviewed, thinks his horse will run well and go close, never heard one say, " my horse can’t win"
more winners drift in market than shorten, some double or even treble in price, still win.

Nowhere to field today Barry? Ahh well Betfair layers doing fine anyway with a couple of odds on pops going down in the last few races.
