Hurdles course described as soft (good to soft in places) with the first two races over hurdles being 17.70s & 24.10s respectively slower than standard, which would seem to indicate the ground is leaning more towards heavy than soft.
The chase course however is described as good to firm (good to soft on the flat crossings) yes I did say good to firm but with the first chase race being run 6.20s slower than standard it would appear that that particular going description is way wide of the mark.
Note: The 2nd race over fences had five fences in the back straight omitted so the time is not going to be relevant (it was 4.30s slow).
I get that the hurdles course (which is in fact run over the flat course) will be softer due to the watering during the flat season but to have that indicated variance between the two course would seem somewhat impossible to achieve….
I also didn’t hear any trainers calling foul of Leicester for racing over fences on supposedly good to firm ground that is clearly a welfare issue or so we have been consistently told over and over again (including comments by some very notable trainers over the last few weeks).
Interesting to note that Henderson does have a runner over fences here as well…..I guess quicker ground is not a horse welfare issue afterall
Note: the horse won as well.December 7, 2022 at 14:59 #1626149It’s been like this at Leicester – and to an extent on the Chase course at Sandown – for years.
And we have had an especially hot summer in which the hurdles/Flat circuit will have been watered continuously but the Chase course will barely have seen a drop of water.
They’ve had hurdles only cards at Leicester already this season and it’s a minor miracle they are even using the Chase course at all.
Wasn’t there a two Chase, five Hurdles card there the other day?

I know they have always seemed to have their issues with ground for one reason or another and maybe they need to make some changes with personnel responsible for ground management.
