This weekend heralds the beginning of the end for the dross channel , no more of those torrid bookie presenters putting viewers away
No more flagship of the Dross channel , Its er Punchestown now apparently or maybe Galway or Listowel …..
Hopefully it will quietly spout drivel about its AW dross and fade away in the near future
What a joy to have Ascot coming to RUK , at last its true home
the dross channel , the end begins here ……
in my opinion of course
May 8, 2014 at 18:56 #478409RUK ain’t much better.
May 8, 2014 at 19:57 #478412Completely disagree with Ricky’s views. ATR is an excellent, vibrant channel which does very well with the coverage of the courses it has. Considering there is no additional subscription fee to watch it, I can’t understand how any racing fan is so obviously biased against it. Personally I regret the loss of Ascot from its portfolio. It served that course extremely well for many years.

Hmmm lets see.. adverts every five minutes or so, awful reviews of previous racing including missing out totally of certain meetings, Matt Chapman, Simon Mapletoft… what more can I say roll on RUK
May 8, 2014 at 22:14 #478426ATR’s coverage is abysmal.
The only programme worth watching is Sunday Forum and even then only when either Matt Chapman or Sean Boyce are hosting. Bob Cooper, dear me, he’s like a doddery old grandad and I spend most of my time yawning when he’s on.
RUK isn’t perfect but better, they need more programmes – example why no flat season preview programme? Epsom Derby – why not a programme the night before the race? Get people in the mood. There should be far more studio programmes, some people love the chat not just the action. Why not a RUK version of Sunday Forum?
The race coverage is good.
Presenter wise there are a couple of lightweights Oli Bell, Niall Hannerty but most are decent and one or two are outstanding.
Glad Ascot is coming to RUK the race coverage will be much, much better.
One more thing I’d like to see RUK do is decide on a principal meeting (particularly big meetings) and show that meeting alone whilst showing lesser meetings behind the red button.
Just put me in charge of the channel, I’ll sort it out.

No thanks, get back in your straitjacket.
Red button – An ATR idea that was only available to Sky viewers.
More chat – no, that’s another thing ATR do too much of.
A better idea would be to broadcast 2 channels on the busy days, one subscription free.
....and you've got to look a long way back for anything else.

The chat doesn’t have to replace anything other than endless replays I don’t see any loss just a gain.
Red button – OK
IF
they can broadcast 2 channels without increasing the subscription fee. I really can’t see that happening but if it does, very good!
May 9, 2014 at 06:31 #478435RUK leaves a lot to be desired but ATR is corrupt.
May 9, 2014 at 08:22 #478444Like it or loathe it ATR has it’s place and for anyone with an interest in the Jumps calendar it provides us in the UK with excellent coverage of the Irish scene with is vital to anyone with an ante post interest for Cheltenham.
I think the coverage is pretty good but do not subscribe to RUK so other than the race replays on web have nothing to compare against.
Anyone wanting it to ‘fade away’ is pretty moronic. If you don’t like it – don’t tune in. Simples.
If you’ve got an interest in a race at Towcester or Dundalk, would you rather watch it or not ?May 9, 2014 at 08:31 #478448The only sweetener attached to the move is the original poster not being able to dredge up the same argument every few days.

Its a serious topic , the end of your beloved dross channel atarts today

IN MY OPINION

If you’ve got an interest in a race at Towcester or Dundalk, would you rather watch it or not ?Thank you. Some of us don’t have RUK so ATR is what I watch when I can. The ads are a pain, but most of the presenters are ok. It shows a lot of racing………end of. I’m happy enough. And if I’ve been working I can watch the replays the next morning. If you don’t like it, switch the bugger off!
May 9, 2014 at 17:11 #478492Thank you. Some of us don’t have RUK
I repeat, as I now have on several threads, that it takes only a quick search using Google to find a totally free and easily watchable online stream for RUK.
I’m not going to provide a definitive link for obvious reasons, but trust me, anybody with a broadband link and a bit of initiative can watch all the racing.
May 9, 2014 at 19:28 #478499Thanks Alan
May 9, 2014 at 19:35 #478500While that may be true, I prefer to just switch the telly on and sit on my sofa with a cuppa. And ATR obviously show different race tracks to RUK.

I too prefer one meeting IB, but the more racecourses there are on RUK the less time the principal meeting will have… And Ascot was ATR’s only jewel. Once RUK has Ascot then (Ricky may well be right) ATR won’t be able to survive too many more racecourse losses… And once ATR has gone – RUK will take over most of their racecouses… Leading to wall to wall races, without any time for previews or reviews.
Be careful of what you wish for.
imo RUK coverage is much better than ATR, latter’s Royal Ascot a big disappointment, but don’t want to see the end of ATR.
