Ladbrokes stated in the Guardian yesterday that there was a big gamble on Bob Dylan to win the Nobel Prize for Literature odds from 100/1 to 5/1, today with less than an hour to go they have Tomas Transtromer at 4/6 to win, another sprat to catch a mackeral???? <!– s:x –>
<!– s:x –>October 6, 2011 at 10:42 #373118A "big" gamble in a non-sports event involves very small liabilities by comparison to a Selling Handicap Hurdle at Worcester this afternoon sponsored by the illustrious bookmakers. Unless you know something about the event, which most bookmakers do not, hence their minimal desire to lay bets on the relative unknown, its just another news item.

Ladbrokes odds were 6/1 yesterday and even money this morning and you tell me they don’t know, it’s just another news item
October 6, 2011 at 11:28 #373131What I am trying to point out is that it would take very little money to force a 100/1 shot into 5/1 especially a recognized name like Dylan. Meanwhile I daresay the price of Transtromer drifts and the shrewdies who have spent a little creating a false gamble, then go in and back the real "good thing" and make a nice overall profit. Unless Ladbrokes are kind enough to show their book on the event we will not know but I doubt very much they made any great profit on the event.
