That Captain Americo is a horse with a big future IMO. Surprised he’s not in the Pertemps Final…

Well done with Captain Americo, KJ. I’ve only just seen your post but I thought about you tipping it earlier this month when watching the race this afternoon. He really had the opposition for breakfast, didn’t he!

Odd sort of race from Open De L’Isle. He was under the shove before three out and got outpaced going to two out, but then picked up again as the leader Cantgeton faltered on the flat. at thhe moment he’s probably pretty much on his mark, and probably needs the race to fall for him if he’s going to win. The hint is that a longer trip would help, but I’m not absolutely convinced of that.

The second Frith is another who has established his level, and having had no luck on his previous two outings very nearly got up to pip Cantgeton. Frith showed a glimmer of ability on the flat and over hurdles but has found his forte over fences at the shorter trips.

Totally unconnected to this thread, but it was nice to see Lago re-appear in the last, He had a horrible fall at Carlisle and I really thought it was curtains for him, but thankfully he appeared fine at Kelso.

Have to go along with you on this one.

I saw Steady Tiger win his bumper at Kelso a couple of seasons back. A really striking individual who saw off his field well on that occasion, despite being described by his trainer as ‘not a bumper horse’. He beat Chestnut Charlie who doddled up in a couple of Irish bumpers before being exposed as having run in an Irish ‘flapper’.

Not often I get this sort of ‘buzz’ about a horse, but this is one of them. Word is that he’s a chaser in the making and on that basis I can’t wait for next season.

As an aside, checking Chestnut Charlie’s record, it seems the French aren’t so fussy about flappers as he ran a few times at Auteuil last year including seventh in the Grand Course D’Haies. That in itself tells us a bit about Steady Tiger.

Surely not worth backing at likely odds-on though?

He was never likely to be that price, but his form certainly doesn’t entitle him to be so much shorter than Sue Smith’s horse.

Steady Tiger may well win on the bridle, but I wouldn’t be keen to go in too heavily.

Steady Tiger was held in the end, but the fact that Magellan Straits was second puts Best Lover’s second effort in a good light. The winner Lord Larsson did the job quite well and I’d take all three out of that contest, and probably Reindeer Dippin as well as one who should make a mark at a slightly lower level than the other three.

Steady Tiger kept staying on but still looks a little green.

I had a couple of small winners early in the afternoon and decided, for the hell of it, to have everything on Vivona Hill in the concluding bumper at Newcastle. It’s obviously disappointing to have your horse nailed yards from the line, but I wasn’t overly impressed by Dougie Costello’s effort on eventual third Bishops Heir.

Having worked his to way the front, Costello seemed to think that he had the beating of Vivona Hill on his outside and put his whip down in the final furlong. Caesar’s Return was still some way back even at that stage, but you could see him gathering momentum and a weak hands and heels ride surely isn’t acceptable 100 yards from the line? As it was he also lost second.

Was it stable money that saw Bishops Heir into 5/2, kj, and were connections at all disappointed with the result?

i know they fancied the horse to win again, as for dougies ride i also thought he was a bit week in the closing stages, had G lee been on board it would of won, james uses G lee sometimes but has been sticking with dougie costello and harry haynes recently. as for connections money i can safely say they got a good chunk off me.
