“I think we can assume Westover will get a better ride at Doncaster if he runs. There is no way he will be allowed to go off as fast.”
Not entirely sure what Keane could’ve done today?
Horse sweated up badly before the race then predictably ran its race backwards, could’ve had gandalf on his back and he’d still have finished tailed off

If the horse decides to, like yesterday, then not a lot the jockey can do about it. And then he would have no chance.
July 24, 2022 at 11:23 #1608325You can’t write off Westover for the Arc based on yesterday. Personally I do think he is overrated. He wouldn’t have won the Derby with a clear run and was victorious in a substandard Irish Derby. However I still think he deserves a place at Longchamp.
Besides there are three weeks between the Leger and Arc.
It’s Emily Upjohns run that puzzles me. Frankie said she didn’t stay in a well run race but that doesn’t explain her finishing out the back of the tv screen.
July 24, 2022 at 11:25 #1608326And has it been confirmed that Egan was sacked? The statement confirming the split said that he had declined to sign his contract which suggests it was David’s decision to split.
July 24, 2022 at 12:01 #1608330Might just be the 3 year old quality on offer compared to the older generation (at this distance). Emily Upjohn has finished about the same distance behind Westover as Tuesday did in the Irish Derby.
It would have been harsh to have put Rob Hornby back on Westover yesterday, he might have done better overall but he still wouldn’t have had the horse he needed under him.
July 24, 2022 at 12:06 #1608331Emily upjohn also pulled like a lunatic despite the strong pace
That’d be why she finished so poorly
Better than she showed but the 3yo fillies seem to be getting battered atm in every race whether it’s against 3yo colts or the older horses
The pretty polly
The Lancashire OaksAnd most of the group 3 and listed races that they have run in against older horses that I can think of
July 24, 2022 at 14:19 #1608354Westover and Emily Upjohn have run far too badly to write off either them, or the Classic generation they were representing, based on their finishing positions here.
The King George sadly isn’t quite the race it once was – I grew up seeing Derby winners like The Minstrel, Troy and Shergar routinely targetted at the race, but 1m2f is the sexy distance in racing nowadays and Australia a few years ago was sent to York, not Ascot.
The International Stakes is often the better race nowadays.
I’m rating good old Pyledriver 121 on yesterday with Torquator Tasso on 118.
Those who follow my broadcasts will know I landed my gamble of the year last year with him in the Arc at 130 on the machine, but I backed him because it was almost unraceably Heavy and he’s unlikely to get his optimum conditions again.
Mishriff missed the break, and doesn’t really truly stay 1m4f, while Broome was another below par.

July 24, 2022 at 15:21 #1608366The Irish Derby form certainly looks nothing special.

July 24, 2022 at 15:36 #1608372Jocking off Westovers jockey was ridiculous anyhow. Dont blame Colin Keane for that though. He essentially bolted. Not sure id take him on next time but id want see the prelims first.
If i were to be critical of anyone though, it might be Ryan Moore.
