Having backed Westover each way in the Derby at 28/1 where he had an unlucky passage I was pleased he got compensation in the Irish Derby.
Would love to see him win this but would be concerned about firm ground.
July 16, 2022 at 00:17 #1607136FF what I find strange is how relaxed Gosden seems to be over it. He went ape when Kingman was running over in Ireland and he tried dictating to the Curragh what order they run their races in. I’m surprised that a trainer hasn’t got his own method of transport in getting the horses over there. What would he being saying if it was the Arc. More foul and miss then we are snookered. I think Desert Crown pulling out has really softened the transport issue for Gosden. I think he’s very pleased about it.

July 16, 2022 at 00:31 #1607138A little funny business has gone on imo, if they really wanted her in Ireland she’d be there
But there just so happens to be a more prestigious race the week after that the fav just got pulled from
July 16, 2022 at 17:40 #1607274Colin Keane retains the ride on Westover.
Not that connections will care what some bloke on an online forum thinks, but I’m not impressed by that. Rob Hornby is a fine jockey and didn’t do that much wrong at Epsom; you could understand connections opting for Keane on his home turf but Hornby should have been back on board at Ascot.
July 16, 2022 at 19:40 #1607283Would love it if “The Train Set” got the leg up on Pyledriver and did Westover in a photo finish.

Westover won well at the Curragh but Tuesday didn’t go a yard. Gosden missing the Irish Oaks which on paper looked a cert for this so must be confident I’d say

July 17, 2022 at 12:20 #1607373Gosden didn’t deliberately bypass the Irish Oaks.
Apparently. 😉
July 17, 2022 at 15:49 #1607402Interesting to note the watering at Ascot (which is currently good to firm, good in places) – they are currently putting on 3mm on the round course every night, whilst 10mm on straight Friday with more on the straight due Monday.

The Westover jockey situation for me confirms that the ‘experience’ reasoning was connections way of trying to mis-direct everyone over the fact that they did feel that Hornby tactically cost the horse his chance of winning at Epsom.
Hornby cleary has more ‘experience’ of riding Ascot (a much more difficult track to ride than the Curragh) than Keane does yet that ‘experience’ doesn’t seem to matter now that they have the jockey they want. Don’t expect him to ever get the ride back again now.

Annoyingly.

July 18, 2022 at 16:34 #1607576Rab Havlin has ridden him once before and most likely has ridden him numerous times at home or maybe even Hollie Doyle as a real left field choice but I would imagine Buick is maybe the most likely given his previous ties with Gosden (won the race on Nathaniel).
July 19, 2022 at 11:53 #1607695James Doyle confirmed for Mishriff.
July 19, 2022 at 12:08 #1607697Sounds like this choice could have been more owner driven than trainer although Doyle did ride Kingman for Gosden so there is history there too.
July 19, 2022 at 13:07 #1607701Emily Upjohn coincidence?
Beckett was going to run Prosperous Voyage (then the 2/1 fav) in France but had travel problems so didn’t go.
Coincidence?
Maybe Gosden organised the bird strike?Value Is EverythingJuly 19, 2022 at 14:36 #1607723The truth is Emily Upjohn was all set to board then out of the blue Frankie Dettori turned up and all hell broke loose when John told Frankie he wasn’t required to ride. One witness over heard Mr Gosden shouting “you ain’t getting on no plane, fool” Another eye witness reported that at one point Frankie dropped the whip and Gosden managed to pin Frankie up against the plane but Dettori having a big head managed to put a dent in it.
It is believed the two have reconciled, Frankie promised to keep away from Johnny G’s horses and Mr G was spotted sending Frankie to the rest room with a bag of Charlie
Emily was shipped off to Ascot post haste in a private jet, privately owned by Johnny which has no links to the Royal MailBlackbeard to conquer the World
