For sure FF she was the only one coming into the season i thought stood a chance! The way soc had to be ridden shes the only one i think could maybe beat her, on the line!
July 27, 2019 at 18:41 #1449538What a horse! She is just amazing isn’t she?
I hope Gosden swerves York after that, she has had a tough race.
July 27, 2019 at 19:05 #1449540I’m not sure she had loads in hand, but she certainly looked to have enough to have won that at levels. Despite her display of battling quality, I suspect Frankie will leave it much later next time assuming circumstances allow.
July 27, 2019 at 20:25 #1449543Enable won by a neck but still would of won carrying 3lb more?
July 27, 2019 at 22:27 #1449548Superb race and pretty much everything went wrong for her early doors, I thought she was in a world of trouble turning for home but Frankie never panicked and she’s tough as nails she looks like she’d run through brick walls to win her races.
To clear up a few things I’ve seen mentioned here about her travelling further than him – according to Will Aitkenhead on Twitter (works for Ascot, will have access to the tracking data they’ve had at Ascot all season which hasn’t been published yet for today) she went 1.9 metres further which in context means she travelled 0.08% further than him, Simon Rowlands reckons it equates to 0.75 lengths not a huge difference maker imo, you can lose that at the start, he was probably as wide as her for most of the race bar the initial bit where she had to be taken back by Frankie. The same source (Will Aitkenhead) states her final 3F sectional was 0.4 secs faster (just over 2 lengths), by my rough calculations equates to around 99.9% finish speed for Enable, 98.9% for Crystal Ocean, Simon Rowlands makes the par for Ascot’s 12F for a 3F sectional 99.6% so she appears to have run more or less the perfect race on the face of it in spite of her being shuffled back, the pace was very honest and he has finished his race off slightly slower than par having raced closer to it. My initial impression was that she’d outstayed him, he went to the rail under pressure and even though he’s battled on I think she had a bit more in the tank where he’s on fumes. I’m just delighted the first three have run their races it was superb to watch just what the flat racing needed on terrestrial TV.
Behind all of that Waldegeist has run a massive race, easily his best outside of France and probably a PB anywhere. Given I always felt he’d shown his best form at Longchamp so far in his career he has to be taken very seriously for the Arc.

Depends how you define “loads”. She was in a poor position due to other horses “race tactics” and her draw. She overcame that, while in my opinion CO had a more favourable position for most of the race. I’ve only watched it once, but it didn’t strike me that Frankie had to go too hard on her either?
Will watch tomorrow again + see but i don’t think i could agree here.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!July 28, 2019 at 00:08 #1449558That’s a very good shout at 25/1, although his trainer seems to think softish ground disadvantages him. Isn’t it usually on the soft side for the Arc?
July 28, 2019 at 11:22 #1449585Actually on reflection having just watched it back, Enable was well on top at the end and I agree she seemed to have a bit in hand. Frankie got to work on her for sure between 2F and 1F out, but he knew half a furlong from home he’d won and was slightly “toying” with Crystal Ocean at the end i think!
I also liked the way she cruised round the course, seemingly effortless. Fairs fair, she is pretty special!
Poor old Crystal Ocean, going down by a neck again for the 2nd year on the trot, he’s good but not superstar good and Enable is.
July 28, 2019 at 12:06 #1449593For me that was the best King George since Bustino-Grundy battle, two warriors fighting it out all the way to the finish. Enable is by far the best mare i have ever seen in Europe.
All comers, all ground, all beaten
July 28, 2019 at 12:18 #1449597Brilliant spectacle
if a race as good as that can’t attract new blood to the sport good luck with all the other gimmicks they keep dreaming upBlackbeard to conquer the World
July 28, 2019 at 12:28 #1449599This was one of the best contests I’ve seen for sometime. Don’t forget the third place Waldgeist who, though held by the first two, really stuck his head down and had a go in third place. There would have been a few years when his performance would have been good enough to have won this race.
July 28, 2019 at 13:09 #1449604Yeah you are right Rob, that was a really cracking run from Waldgeist, clear best on RPR and I’m a bit disappointed now that the ground was GS, as it would’ve have been fascinating to see how he did on better ground. I’m personally not sure there would have been any difference but a lot of people think he is better on quicker ground and if that was the case, he could’ve gone mighty close actually.
Where is he likely to go next? Is there something before the Arc he could win?
Well done to the Waldgeist EW backers there.
July 28, 2019 at 13:13 #1449605Maybe the prix foy, the race he won last year as a warm up for the arc
July 29, 2019 at 10:57 #1449680Tremendous race, tremendous mare & tremendous colt.
Enable wins giving him 3 IMO – She hit the front too soon, Frankie let her go it herself & he also had the rail to assist. Ratings are all good and well but when a horse is only doing enough you can’t account for that.
If they meet again in the Arc she beats him further than a length anyway
It must be remembered how great a race it was last year also! PW & CO also had an epic down the straight ala Grundy Bustino and i’ve not heard anything reference it at all.

August 22, 2019 at 18:46 #1451716Thought I’d resurrect this thread with regards to tomorrow’s Lonsdale Stakes (it was not, and will never be, a true “Cup” race in my opinion).
If those adherents of reading form by the book are true to their argument, I’m sure that they’ll offer me 100-1 about Stradivarius tomorrow, given that Dee Ex Bee is a certainty to reverse the form on these revised terms.
Any takers?
