The “Ascot Derby” is a trial for the real thing this year!

Mogul is a strong favourite but I have a liking for his stable companion Arthur’s Kingdom.

I went to Gowran Park when I was on holiday last year and saw Arthur’s Kingdom win the opening maiden. He needed every yard of the mile. He later ran well when second in the Criterium de Saint Cloud.

He is certain to relish the step up to a mile and a half and might be value against the favourite. The slight worry is the faster ground – Gowran had to survive an inspection and the ground was bottomless.

I’ve bet Mogul for The Derby and The Arc, so I will just watch this, and hope that he can keep my hopes up.
