Devastating news
August 12, 2003 at 19:25 #81237Terrible, sad news. My thoughts are with his family and his friends.
August 12, 2003 at 20:10 #81238That`s horrible news .
I don`t know what to say.
August 13, 2003 at 05:10 #81239Awful news. A stark reminder of the risks all jockeys take on a daily basis. Thoughts and prayers with his family and friends in this dark hour.
August 13, 2003 at 08:29 #81240I can only echo those sentiments. Really sad news.
August 13, 2003 at 08:43 #81241Awful.
August 13, 2003 at 11:12 #81242Sad news indeed…just shows what dangers are there.
August 13, 2003 at 11:23 #81243Put’s all the hot air expelled about this sport in perspective.
R.I.P.
August 13, 2003 at 15:05 #81244Really shocking, awful. You can’t begin to think what his family must be going through, my thoughts are with them.
August 13, 2003 at 16:16 #81245Very sad indeed. Deepest sympathy to his family and fiancee in this time of sorrow. We are reminded by this tragedy "a horseman’s grave is always open"
August 13, 2003 at 17:14 #81246What an awful tragedy.
Other than his Cheltenham win on Hardy Eustace, I didn’t know too much about him, but it seems he was a lovely lad, which makes it all the worse.
Sympathies to his family and his many friends.
August 13, 2003 at 17:42 #81247Tragedy is the ‘mot juste’.
We have so much lighthearted banter on here that it’s easy to lose sight of the fact that people are working hard & with danger daily, for us to have our entertainment.
It is always tragic in my opinion when a young person dies – so much of life they haven’t seen, but of course he is at peace now & it is the grief of his proud family that perhaps is the most heart rending aspect of this particular tragedy.
Our thoughts are with them now & particularly tomorrow when I understand it is his funeral.
August 13, 2003 at 18:17 #81248Horrible and sickening news, especially when there were reports that he could have been improving but the fact he was on a life support machine showed how serious it was from the outset. At 25 it’s such a waste and my thoughts and prayers are with his family. It really does put everything else into perspective.
August 13, 2003 at 20:16 #81249Just couldn’t believe the lack of coverage in not just the racing pages but the sports pages generally. So little respect.
August 14, 2003 at 12:13 #81250It is truely difficult to put into words, how awful this tragic event is. I cannot even begin to imagine the pain that Kieran’s family and friends are going through at this time, – my thoughts are with them all. I am sure that the presence of this talented young man, both on and off the racecourse, will be greatly missed, but never forgotten
RIP Kieran
August 14, 2003 at 14:45 #81251Terrible thing to happen.
Ironic (if you could call it that, can’t think of a suitable word), that the fall should have happened at Kilbeggan of all places – after all the recent trouble the course has had with the ambulance track (or lack of it).
We all wanted to see the course open again but nobody wanted the ambulance’s to be needed.
We all know how dangerous it is, but we (well I anyway), seem to put it to the back of our minds and are forced to think of it when these things happen. We all have to hope for more improvements to racing/equipment etc, to make tragedies like this less common.
January 5, 2007 at 21:54 #81252With all the talk about Hardy Eustace back to his best i just wanted to say that we havent forgot about the jockey who gave him his first cheltenham win. You will always be remembered Kieran.
