7 year old trained my Philip Hobbs took a nasty fall at Bangor and has just been confirmed by Luke Harvey as having sustained fatal injuries and had to be put down.

It was a horrid fall for both horse and jockey, the jockey appeared to be knocked out as he hit the ground and has been taken to hospital. There are no updates at this time on his condition.

Latest update on Racing Post is that thankfully Kepy Blanc’s jockey is now conscious in hospital.

Sadly Kepy Blanc had to be put down it was reportedly a crashing fall.
    R.I.P ⚘
Condolences to all at Phillip Hobbs yard and thoughts with jockey Ben Sutton for a speedy recovery.

    The poor horse is dead.
Unlike the jockey, Kepy Blanc didn’t go into the race voluntarily.
As a racing driver in the past, the jockey did know and accept the risks.
Why does no one really care about the horses?

At least you know We all care about the horses here Salateen.

It is heartbreaking every time a horse loses it’s life jumping a fence, running in a flat race, on the gallops or wherever they are.
That is why the Memorials Thread is here to pay tribute to all those horses who sadly lose their lives on the racecourse to make sure their names are remembered.

Surely the jockey seriously injured in that fall deserves some compassion he was doing a job and could not foresee the accident.

When I see a horse fall my first thought is always for the horse to see that it has got up safely and I hardly watch National Hunt these days, but even on the flat there have been some terrible scenes of horses breaking down this year it’s been hard to take.

It saddens me that so many horses are lost each week for this so called sport of kings, they are the most beautuful animal on this planet and this is the hardest Thread to visit as you know from each new post that another horse has sadly lost it’s life.
Here is the place we come to pay our respects and thanks to that horse …

The horse did it well on his previous visit here. R.I.P.

Sorry to say but I rarely have much confidence in the jumping of a Hobbs horse.

“Even on the flat there have been some terrible scenes of horses breaking down this year it’s been hard to take.”

This will only get worse as the sport breeds more and more horses for speed and horses like Blackbeard that could not even last a full season in training are marketed as the ideal stallions.

Very well said Triptych, and RIP Kepy Blanc.

If I’m honest, my first concern when I see a fall is for the horse too. It’s not that I don’t care about the human, but the risks for the horse are so much greater.

But it is still totally right and proper to care about the jockeys, and also their loved ones who must go through agony waiting to hear news.

It annoys me no end when commentators do not update on the wellbeing of both parties following a fall.

Me too Marlingford the first thing I want to hear is that the horse is up safely and then that both horse and jockey have returned unscathed.
Commentators seem to hang onto that information far too long it must be so stressful for connections of the horse or the jockeys family watching at home.

I was at Newmarket on Future Champions day when the filly Lift Off clipped heels with another horse and crashed to the ground throwing Frankie Dettori onto the turf at high speed. Watching from the stand I couldn’t watch the rest of the race but kept my eyes on tbe screen to see the filly thankfully rise and go scooting off. Frankie took a little longer to get up but he did safely. The filly passed the stands lengths behind the winner but she got the biggest cheer of all it was heartwarming to see racegoers react like that.
It was a sickening fall but thankfully both horse and rider were fine. The filly ran on after the winning post and went AWOL for a while. I think they caught her at the start of the Cesarewitch.
Kepy Blanc was not so fortunate but he will never be forgotten within the pages of our Memorials Thread.⚘

Some of the loudest cheers I have ever heard is when a horse recovers from a bad fall at the last.

I recall being at Aintree one day when a horse fell at the last hurdle. The screens went up and everyone feared the worst.

After about 10 minutes, the screens were taken away and the horse was on his feet. He had clearly been exhausted and could not get to his feet straightaway. He was all right once he had been given time to get his breath back.

He received a louder cheer than the winner.
