I know it’s a bit too soon, but how long before the race can one find a the complete list of possible derby runners?

Jeremy Plonk’s First "Countdown to the Crown"
http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/horse/columns/story?columnist=plonk_jeremy&id=5998760It’s less than 4 months away, but you know what?
Time means nothing unless you’re in jail.
For those of us who follow this sport, this next 4 months are going to fly by.For me, the trail starts at Fairgrounds with the Lecomte on 1/22, and then really gets underway with the Holy Bull at Gulfstream on 1/30. 4 weeks later comes the Fountain Of Youth, and a couple weeks later comes the Tampa Bay Derby on 3/12, which is expected to be the 3yo debut of Uncle Mo. Just 2 weeks after that comes the Florida and Loozie Derbies, with the Wood, Santa Anita Derby, and Illinois Derby following in a quick 2 weeks….and a week after that we have the Arky and the Bluegrass.
It may be mid-January, but this next three months are going to fly by.
Fast and Fun!

Dell YountFebruary 7, 2011 at 22:34 #339440Steve Haskin in BloodHorse.com has a good list of contenders. Dialed In was very impressive to me in the Holy Bull, nice stretch kick and looked like he would appreciate added distance.
February 8, 2011 at 16:52 #339519Call me a bit biased, but UNCLE MO was awesome at the Breeders Cup, and the horse should be held in the same regard as Frankel, with the way he demolished the field in the Juvenile, and think 4/1 for the Derby is a great price.

looks a bit special.
His debut success at Churchill Downs was very impressive. Missing the break, not handling the turn, pulling hard, very green down the strech – how he won is beyond me.

His second start – The Holy Bull (G3) – had to be seen to be believed. Once again, not quick from the gates, dropped fifteen off the lead (Zenyatta-esque) before effortlessly making ground on the leaders approaching the final turn (not even in shot before then), given a crack with the whip halfway down the strech, instant response and still green before pulling away.
The Derby could stretch his stamina, but looking at his style and the way he travels, he has every chance of seeing out the trip.

From the man who brought you Zenyatta.
March 10, 2011 at 17:01 #344064Posted this in US Racing. Despite the weird green background, it’s a good site with Derby prep races and videos.
March 11, 2011 at 15:14 #344207Fingers crossed for Uncle Mo tomorrow, should be a walk in the park but after Dialed In’s shock defeat we are reminded there is no such thing as a certainty in this game.
I presume ATR wont be showing it as they dont have the Gulfstream rights.
So does anyone know of any free sites where live covereage could be accessed please?
I agree with the poster who said he is the US equivalent of Frankel and 4/1-7/2 is a great price. I am on from 5.9 to 5.0 on Betfair and will have a nice return if he wins in May, but I am hoping he goes to odds on before then so I can trade out.
Pletcher has said he thinks he could be the shortest priced KD fav since Easy Goer.
Lest hope we finally get another Triple crown winner in the states.
Many thanks
March 11, 2011 at 18:23 #344221Uncle Mo will likely scratch from the Tampa Bay Derby.
Cross-entered for Saturday in the Tampa Bay Derby
and the Timely Writer at Gulfstream Park.
The intent, as stated by trainer Pletcher,
is to go in the Gulfstream race.
The cross-entry was to keep the options open
just in case the Timely Writer didn’t fill, which it did.SEE THE TAMPA BAY DERBY

Can’t find any
free
sites for Gulfstream. The NTRA has yet to get its act together with live video. http://www.thoroughbredtimes.com/racing/video.aspx and/or http://www1.drf.com/stakeresults/drfStakeResults.jsp will have a replay within minutes, though.

Well, he did it nicely in the end following a funereal first quarter. The runner up only won a 6f maiden prior to day I believe but is apparently highly regarded by his handler Kiaran McLaughlin.
Following two shocks tonight at Tampa Bay including Uncle Mo’s stablemate Bethren in the Tampa Bay Derby, it is hard to knock Uncle Mo’s taking performance even if the opposition was weak and the time slow.
One imagines if Velazquez had set harder fractions his victory would have been even more impressive.
Now down to 3.1 on Betfair I am on at an average of 5.36! Do I trade out now for a gtd profit or wait for the Wood Memorial – I am sure if he wins that like he did tonight he has to become an even money shot for the KDerby?

I found the link above on Pletchers site giving workouts which include one by Uncle Mo over 1/2 mile in 0.49 2/5. I haven’t a clue whether this is a good sign or not, some of the horses beat it well (R Heat Lightning for instance) whilst others 2 secs slower.
Can any US racing experts enlighten me, as if he is not working well I need to press the lay buttong on Bfair pdq!
