    Someone explain this to me.  He is on all the betting sites as a runner in the opening race at cheltenham,…a race he ran in last year. How does he remain qualified?

    He was still a novice at the start of this season (i.e. didn’t win a race in 05-06) so is qualified to run in novices this season.

    Horses retain their novice status over hurdles or fences until they win over hurdles or fences.

    Aha, I see what you mean.  I was sure he must have won something during that time.  Silly me.<br>
