Surely a racing forum should have a thread on the world’s best (flat) horse?
Another demolition job this morning (UK time) in the Hong Kong Sprint, in which jockey Zac Purton barely had to move as the great champion eased to a 3 3/4 length success.
That makes it sixteen wins in a row for Ka Ying Rising, who must surely be ranked number one globally now, if he wasn’t already.
December 14, 2025 at 07:48 #1747552He’s ok but no American Affair
December 14, 2025 at 13:46 #1747561Good point Gladders, I was willing to nominate him or Romantic Warrior as the horse(s) of the year in our TRF Yearly Awards Nominations thread, but I wasn’t sure if I could get them any votes.
You don’t see many sprinters win in a canter without being extended at all. At least not in G1 company.
Can’t see them coming to Europe though.December 14, 2025 at 16:15 #1747586The thing that made me laugh about the coming to Royal Ascot was the comment from Purton:
“I think it’s hopeless. We race for as much money in a Group 2 or 3 here as they do there. It’s just not worth going, unfortunately. As much as we’d love to go for the prestige and it would be great to showcase him in the UK, it doesn’t make sense.”
After today’s win the horse has amassed just over £11.6m in prize money, so is how much less you would win at Royal Ascot really going to be that much of a deal breaker when you have already won that much prize money to date?
I don’t really expect to see him over here but if you look at his record he only had one run this season in the Chairman’s Sprint on 27 April (granted it was worth £1.2m to the winner!!!) that might have been impacted if he came to Royal Ascot in June and the season before that he had two runs (a handicap worth £160k to the winner on 5 May and a G3 on 2 June worth £236k to the winner) in each of those seasons his subsequent next run wasn’t until September so there would appear to be a window where he could come if they really were that way inclined. Also the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot was worth £567k to this year’s winner which is more than the combined prize money of the aforementioned two races he won last season.
On a side note, the only horse to have ever beaten him is the horse who finished down in 8th (Wunderbar) and he actually beat him twice when they were a 3yr olds where he was also giving him 4lbs both times…….how their respective paths have diverged since then though with Wunderbar winning just 3 of his next 12 races whilst Ka Ying Rising has been unbeaten in going 16 for 16!
December 14, 2025 at 16:33 #1747588It would be a “What if” situation for Wunderbar if he was not injured after 2nd victory over Ka Ying Rising.
https://racing.hkjc.com/racing/information/English/VeterinaryRecords/OveHorse.aspx?HorseId=HK_2022_H411Wunderbar took a 8-month rest for this injury.
By the way, Wunderbar just beat Ka Ying Rising by nose and short head in those 2 victories.
December 14, 2025 at 17:57 #1747596LD73, HK season ends in June and starts again in Sept, on paper it looks like there is room available. But I believe they want to stay home and keep him running locally to prolong his racing days. Albeit with the occasional yearly trip to Australia for the Everest where possible.
December 14, 2025 at 19:34 #1747600Hes a very relaxed horse for a sprinter and its not often a NZ bred serves it up to Ozzie breds over sprint trips .
Seeing how Asfoora is Champion Sprinter of Europe he has nothing to prove against the snails in Europe , its all about racing the best , and thats all geared up for another win in Everest i would have thought , Asfoora kilos and kilos behind Ka Ying Rising .
Ronantic Warrior something else , traveled and wins , and then returns from injury to blitz them last night .
With Calandagan theres three fantastic horses to follow next year , all three done it the hard way travelling , Calandagans win in Japan Cup up there with Ka Ying Rising and Romantic Warrior for me .January 25, 2026 at 15:11 #1751842Won today at 1/100 making 17 in a row, is that the biggest odds on shot ever?
January 25, 2026 at 15:28 #1751844Landafar – there was a previous (short-lived) topic on long odds-on shots:
January 25, 2026 at 17:05 #1751858Thanks Glad, looks like Lester won the biggest odds on shot. Interesting though, thanks.
January 25, 2026 at 17:33 #1751873Didn’t Lester’s ridiculously short priced winner only win by a head? Or have I got it mixed up with something else?
