Aidan O’Brien sure knows how to read the Coolmore script.
Poor old Galileo!
How quickly they (commercially) move on.
Every year, they’ve got their best ever racehorse AND their best ever stallion – if only we could have a bet on what they’re going to say: We’d all clean up!

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"February 19, 2024 at 14:22 #1681706He should be asked to justify his belief.
Value Is EverythingFebruary 19, 2024 at 14:37 #1681709Wootton Bassett also bought in by “The Lads’ to fill the void.
There’ll never be another to replace Galileo however hard they search.
JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...February 19, 2024 at 14:46 #1681710I thought it was a good interview, despite the obvious hyperbole in places.

I know, I thought that too. Yes it was a good interview…notable lack of the F word in an interview about bloodlines, best sires, best evers and whatnot mind you.
Maybe the best ever will be Justify.
Maybe it’ll be FFFFFFfffff..
Go on Aidan
Say it
Say it, I dare you..
Ffffffr…February 19, 2024 at 16:05 #1681719Has Justify ever raced when on drugs? If yes, then I wouldn’t want him (or any other drugged horses) in the breeding cycle.
February 19, 2024 at 16:37 #1681721According to this, yes he would have been drugged. https://www.insidescience.org/news/science-and-controversy-behind-horse-racing%27s-most-popular-race-day-drug
That article also claims that bleeding is a heritable trait- I don’t know about the specifics but it seems feasible as the propensity to most physiological problems is heritable.
February 19, 2024 at 16:50 #1681722Thanks for the article, green. I’m sure not every breeder will go crazy after his progeny. Glad to keep the bleeders out of the game, whenever possible.
February 19, 2024 at 18:01 #1681728I thought it was an alright interview too, actually.
But GAG has absolutely nailed it.
You know how a forum admin can set it so if you type a certain word it won’t appear?
I reckon that’s what embedded microchip technology has done with Aidan’s voicebox.
“Who did Timeform rate 147, Aidan?”
“#%^*+=.”
“Who?”
“#%^*+=!”
“Can’t quite make that out, Aidan – ok, moving swiftly on….”

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"February 19, 2024 at 19:05 #1681735Full of it isn’t he? I don’t blame him. He’s marketing his brand. None of the current Coolmore stallions will emulate Galileo though. He was by far the best they had and, as such, was promoted ruthlessly. Many group races in Ireland only involved his offspring so his record is exaggerated in numerical terms. He was a great sire but will always be best known for siring Frankel. It is rather sad that none of Coolmore’s Galileos look like being anything more than decent stallions but they have a lot of excellent Galileo mares, any one of which could produce a champion.
February 19, 2024 at 20:13 #1681744When I read the headline on the RP website, I just gave an eye role just like I have done now for many years when he peddles out the “insert current/latest horse name’ is different and unlike any horse we have had etc etc etc.
Of course these comments have nothing to do with him being their latest in a growing line of stallions they are attempting to try and replace Galileo with. They will have to face facts that the domination that Galileo achieved are heights that their (and most likely any other) stallion are highly unlikely to reach again.
If you had to pick one that has the best chance to do it, then it is the son of Galileo that got away from Coolmore…..namely Frankel and even for him it will be a mountain to climb to just match let alone surpass daddy’s exploits.
You do have to give top marks to Aidan for trying though…..even if a large number will view it as just more hyperbole from one of the masters at it.
February 19, 2024 at 21:05 #1681746February 20, 2024 at 20:45 #1681877He said could be as he’s had a spectacular second season as a sire. We will know better after the upcoming season. As for Frankel coolmore have very few so view justify and Wooton Bassett as equal or better and sending top mares to Japan.John Magnier gets it right more times than he doesn’t so don’t think aidan is being economical with his interview.
Actually one of the best interviews he’s done. Admitted that most trainers have their fav type of horses but impossible to tell till a horse is in training to see if it will be any good.
Unlikely there will be another galileo hence why magnier is using the likes of siyouni and spreading his options.
Galileos legacy will go on for years with his broodmares. His broodmares produced twice as much prizemoney last season as the next best oasis dream and with such a spread of mares going to top stallions could be just as good the next few seasons.February 20, 2024 at 21:24 #1681887Thanks Louise. This is exactly how things are covered up in the US, a country in which performance enhancing drugs are daily routine in any professional sport.
