What do you prefer, just i want to know what is favoured the most
ThanksAugust 28, 2007 at 17:05 #112790I quite like both really, but sometimes when it’s the jump season i miss the decent flat races
But there are some great horses for this years jump season and i’m looking forward to the return of Kicking King.
I’m getting the "winter feeling"
i’m really looking forward to the winter for the jumps and the salesAugust 28, 2007 at 17:15 #112794I prefer national hunt because I think it’s more personal with the horses. They’re like old friends, coming back year after year, where the change over of horses on the flat is more regular. You obviously get some exceptions on the flat, such as the late Persian Punch who became a favourite due to him returning year after year to do battle. The national hunt horses do this year in year out, with only injury or age stopping them.
August 28, 2007 at 19:19 #112816I prefer flat races because in jump races too many accidents happen and too many horses and jockeys get hurt or die.
August 28, 2007 at 22:33 #112842The romance of jumps racing keeps me coming back with vigour year on year. As much as the best flat horses are a joy to watch, the code just doesn’t have the same magic IMO.
August 28, 2007 at 23:09 #112845I find the Flat much more reliable for profitable punting but I still like the Jumps. If my punting experience were reversed I am not sure I would find much else to keep me interested in the Flat.
August 29, 2007 at 16:55 #112940Although my preference is for the jumps I do enjoy occasional forays to flat meetings – especially good quality like York. Enjoy watching sprinters leaving the parade ring to go out on the track – coiled springs!
August 29, 2007 at 22:58 #112978When I first caught the racing bug it was during a flat season many years (well 20) ago. I did not have much of a care for the jumps. Over the the years I have grown to have love the jumpers too. Year after year many of the horses I follow appear again and again. Hurdle to chase..NHF to champions etc. I love the sport to bits and the big flat meetings are fantastic with so many champions and stories. So to cut it short ( and maybe cos the more exiting jumps season is soonish upon us), I would vote…jumps. From a betting view I do not make a decent profit at the jumpers and make a small profit from the flat..so work that one out!
August 29, 2007 at 23:24 #112979I like it all .. preferrably class 4 and up !!
August 30, 2007 at 08:47 #113000More tolerant of the Flat than hitherto but still far prefer the jumps… preferably class 4 and below!

August 30, 2007 at 09:13 #113003I prefer a flat turf season from March to November.
Jumps from August to June.
AW (artificial wagering) from October to March.

Contender for "Most Unlikely Statement of 2007", in my opinion.
You’re not on the turn, are you J??
August 30, 2007 at 13:15 #113015Grassy/graysons, there’s a big American steeplechase on ATR tonight from Saratoga at 9.47.
You both probably know, but just in case.
August 30, 2007 at 13:22 #113017Winter Jumps without hesitiation
Have only been to Windsor once since 01 May this year but will probably go approx 20 times (not to Windsor though would like to) between Oct & April this winter
August 30, 2007 at 13:27 #113018I would always have said Flat (as I’ve only been exposed to Australian hamster jumps
) but after seeing a Cheltenham DVD the other week the jumps are becoming a lot more interesting.

Nice shout, Max – I hadn’t spotted that.
Xavier Aixpuru is down for a ride in the race – that’s one crossed-off already.

Thought that might make you choke on your deep-fried Toffos, Grasshopper!

Worry not. In so far as a lot of my current freelance engagements – and the Sportsman gig before that – require or have required a smattering of work on Flat races on occasion, I’m more receptive to it as a racing medium than, say, two years ago. I’d be cutting my nose off in spite of face if I wasn’t.
It’s always only been the very low grade stuff, though (I seem to do best at Yarmouth, Bath and Southwell AWT for whatever reason), and I’m still a veeeeeeeeeeery long way away from finding anyone a hatful of Royal Ascot winners!
Next racing trip for me is Fontwell a week on Sunday, btw, if you require any further reassurances.
