I have been waiting for the jump season on channel 4 for 4 months. The flat season bores me no end and i can’t wait to get this under way again, though i constantly find myself every year tuning in week after week near the end of the flat season to see if there is any jumping, only to be let down, so i’ll save myself the hassle this year…
Does anyone know when the jumps will be returning to Channel 4 this year? Need to make sure my Grand National possibility resources are ready in time…
August 26, 2010 at 16:05 #314724Channel 4’s first visit to Cheltenham is on 16 October, though this is overshadowed by Newmarket’s Champion Day.
The week after that they are showing the Old Roan Chase at Aintree, and at the end of October they are covering Ascot and Wetherby (Charlie Hall Chase day).
Its in the second week of November when things hot up as its Cheltenham’s first big meeting of the year (Open meeting?)
I can’t wait!!
August 26, 2010 at 19:03 #314747All that and the start of the point to point season at the end of November. Anyone for Cottenham.

Good one, Phil!

Isn’t that on BBC, or have they given Aintree up too?
It’s a chilly, dewy, near-autumnal morning and thoughts turn to winter and an RUK subscription
TV for a score or Web for a tenner? I just dunno
One more month, just one more month to wait

Oh Yes!!!!!
August 27, 2010 at 11:32 #314824Talking of Aintree, will Channel 4 cover the Becher Chase or – being on a Sunday – will they show their usual repeats of Friends?
No doubt BBC couldn’t fit the one day outside the National festival into their schedules to fit in some motor racing, football or rugby.
August 27, 2010 at 15:39 #314861the first cheltenham card is indeed overshadowed by champions day at newmarket but of course next year that may well be at ascot on the bbc?
as for the becher chase meeting….sadly it wont be televised this year as the bbc have dropped it and ch4 dont want to cover any extra sunday meetings.
it was reported in the racing post a while back that in order to obtain ch4 airtime the becher chase meeting will be moved next year to the tingle creek saturday.
as for this year lets hope that greedy ruk go free to air at aintree.August 28, 2010 at 07:08 #314912Didn’t think I’d ever say this, ut I’ll be quite happy if the National goes to Channel 4 now. At least they give a flying one about jump racing. The Beeb can’t even be arsed to show the one trial over the National course? If McCoy somehow does win SPOTY, he should tell them where to stick it.
August 28, 2010 at 08:40 #314921I’m longing for the jumps season, bring it on.

Just to put everyone straight on this matter, both are overshadowed by Kelso’s second meeting of the autumn!

August 28, 2010 at 20:27 #314971I’ve never been to Kelso and since its in the middle of nowhere and I don’t drive I don’t think I ever will!
Shame Channel 4 no longer televises their Highlands National fixture.
August 28, 2010 at 20:42 #314976that’ll be Perth mate
August 28, 2010 at 21:13 #314979Apologies but Kelso do have a "National" or at least thry used to.
August 28, 2010 at 21:21 #314980Kelso have the Borders National and, as DJ stated, Perth hold the Highland National.
